BELLEVUE, Neb. – After Dakota State (S.D.) took a 68-67 lead late in the second-half Saturday evening at Gordon Lozier Athletic Center, No. 22-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) shut down the Trojans 11-0 in the final 4:23 of the game to earn a 78-68 North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball conference victory.  The Bruins won their eighth-straight victory while the Trojans' season-high four-game winning streak was halted.

Dakota State fell to 9-11 overall record and 3-5 North Star conference record.  Bellevue lifted their overall record to 14-7 and currently leads the North Star conference standings with a 6-2 record.

Both teams went through five ties and two lead changes in the first eight-plus minutes.  With DSU leading 22-21, the Trojans outscored the Bruins 9-0 to grab the first double-digit lead of the game at 31-21 after a 3-pointer by Brendon Boomsma with 6:46 left before halftime.

Kyle Kilgore completed a 3-point play with 5:11 left in the first-half, giving Dakota State its biggest lead of the game at 36-24. 

BU would close the first-half with a 14-7 run as DSU held a 43-38 halftime advantage.

The Trojans shot a sizzling 57.1 percent from the field (20-of-35) in the first twenty minutes of the game.  The Bruins were 14-of-29 from the field (48.3 percent) in the first-half.

DSU maintained its lead early in the second-half before BU rallied back to knot the game at 53-53 with 12:57 remaining in the game.

Both teams traded leads or tied the game for a span of nine minutes before Bellevue shut down Dakota State down the stretch.

The Trojans missed the final eight shots of the game as the Bruins secured a 10-point victory.

Bellevue outscored Dakota State 40-25 in the second-half.  The Trojans were 37.5 percent from the field (9-of-24) in the final twenty minutes of the game, while the Bruins were 45.2 percent from the field (14-of-31).

There were eight ties and nine lead changes overall in the game.

Kilgore poured in a season-high 27 points for DSU.  He was 11-of-16 from the field and made all five free-throw attempts.  Tanner Heiser added nine points.  Kevin Daniels scored eight points off the bench.  Justin Folkers had seven points.  Bobby Farquah tallied six points.

Kilgore led the Trojans with eight rebounds and three blocked shots.  Farquah added seven rebounds and two blocks.  Farquah and Daniels each contributed three assists.

BJ Shelton led the Bruins with a game-high 29 points on his 13-of-20 field goal shooting.  Mike Cardenas had 12 points.  Blake Wilder and Jalen Hall each scored eight points.

Jaffery Stillman grabbed 10 rebounds for BU.  Shelton had nine rebounds.  Nick Hilton dished out four assists.  Hilton and Cardenas each had three steals.

DSU shot better in the game, shooting 49.2 percent from the field (29-of-59).  BU was 28-of-60 field goals (46.7 percent).

The Bruins went to the free-throw line 29 times, making 17 free-throws (58.6 percent).  The Trojans were 8-of-11 free-throws.

BU outrebounded DSU 40-30 in the game. 

Dakota State looks to bounce back in the winning column as they return home Friday evening.  The Trojans kick off their second-half portion of the North Star conference schedule – with six of the final eight conference games to be held at DSU Fieldhouse – Friday evening versus Jamestown (N.D.).  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Madison, S.D.
