SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Dakota State University (S.D.) indoor track and field teams kicked off their 2017 season Saturday, competing at the Dordt (Iowa) Invitational.  The meet was held at the Recreation Center on the campus of Dordt College.

DSU's Mark Moeller led the Trojans with a third-place finish in the men's 800-meter run.  He clocked a time of 1 minute, 58.36 seconds in the race.  Alex Derr also placed 11th for the Trojans in 2:03.40.  Cameron Harming was 13th with a time of 2:05.08.

D'Artist Williams sprinted a time of 6.72 seconds to advance in the men's 55-meter dash for the Trojans.  He finished sixth overall in the prelims.  Bailey Ludens recorded a time of 6.91 seconds to finish 18th.  Austin Row was 28th in 7.21 seconds, followed by Kennan Kelly 29th-place finish in 7.30 seconds.

Williams finished fifth in the finals of the 55-meter dash for Dakota State.  He ran a time of 6.65 seconds in the race.

On the women's side of the 55-meters, Megan Schrempp led the Trojans with an 18th-place finish in 7.93 seconds.  Breanna Adsit was 22nd after clocking a time of 8.00 seconds.

Kylie Martin finished eighth in the women's weight throw with a measurement of 40 feet, 11.75 inches (12.49 meters) for Dakota State.  She was also tenth in the shot put after throwing 34 feet, 1.5 inches (10.40 meters).

Maxwell Cruse recorded a time of 9 minutes, 38.62 seconds as he placed ninth in the men's 3000-meter run for the Trojans.  Claudio Tejada clocked a time of 9:49.21 to finish 13th.  Taylor Hauge was 18th (10:07.97), followed by Michael Carson with a 19th-place finish (10:09.26).  Caleb Hemphill finished 24th in 10:54.53.  Jonathan Lein was 25th in 10:58.69.

The DSU men's 4 x 400-meter relay team – consisted of Moeller, Braden Curnow, Tejada and Harming – finished ninth overall with a time of 3 minutes, 39.39 seconds.

DSU's Tyra Laws ran a time of 1:10.08 to place 11th in the women's 400-meter dash.

Victoria Sopko also finished 11th in the women's 600-meter run with a time of 1:51.32.  Mercedes Jochims was 13th in 2:05.62.

Dakota State returns back to Brookings, S.D. for the second time during the indoor track & field season.  The Trojans participate in the South Dakota State Division 2 Open on Friday.  The meet will take place at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.
