NSAA PRESS RELEASE

MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State's (S.D.) Kyle Kilgore was tabbed as the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week, the eleventh installment of the weekly honor was announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.  It was his fourth overall North Star Athletic Association weekly honor during his career at Dakota State (3 times in 2015-16 season).

DSU's Kilgore – 6-foot-7 forward – scored over 20 points for the last three games, where the Trojans went 2-0 record last weekend at DSU Fieldhouse.  Dakota State also recorded its sixth win in the last seven games after defeating Jamestown (N.D.) 79-73 on Jan. 20 and 99-97 in overtime thriller over Presentation (S.D.) on Jan. 21.

Kilgore scored a season-high 29 points on his 11-of-16 field goal shooting and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line in Trojans' victory over the Jimmies.  He also had nine rebounds and a steal in the game.  He followed that up with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in DSU's win over the Saints.  He was 9-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 free-throws.

For the week, Kilgore averaged 26.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for Dakota State.  He shot a blazing 20-of-27 field goals (74.1 percent) and made 13-of-15 free-throws (86.7 percent).  He had scored in double digits 17 times this season.

According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, Kilgore ranks 24th in the nation in field goal percentage of 59.7 percent (135-of-226 field goals) for the Trojans.  In addition, he is 43rd in three different categories – defensive rebounds per game (5.8), points per game (18.7) and total rebounds per game (8.1). 

During his career at Dakota State, Kilgore accumulated 860 points in 51 games (16.9 points per game).  He also averaged 8.3 career rebounds per game (422 total rebounds). 

Kilgore is third in the North Star in scoring per game during conference game with an average of 20.1 points per game for the Trojans.  He is tied for second in the NSAA in rebounds per game during conference with an average of 8.9 rebounds.

Kyle is the son of Eric and Pam Kilgore of Adrian, Minn.  He is a senior Physical Education major at Dakota State University.

Dakota State (11-11 overall record, 5-5 North Star record) steps away from the North Star conference play with a pair of non-conference road games this week.  The Trojans visit Grace (Neb.) Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. and in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
