GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK

· The Dakota State University men's basketball team (11-11 overall record) steps away from the North Star Athletic Association conference play this week.

· The Trojans play their final two non-conference games on the road.

· DSU visits Grace (Neb.) (11-10 overall record) Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.  The game will be held at Jim Classen Gymnasium (810 Pine Street) in Omaha, Neb.

· Dakota State continues their four-game road trip Sunday afternoon, traveling to Cimpl Arena to take on in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) (4-16 overall record).  Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. (1105 W 8th Street) in Yankton, S.D.

TROJANS KEEP ROLLING

· Dakota State (S.D.) won their third straight home game after a pair of victories last weekend at DSU Fieldhouse.

· DSU also recorded its sixth win in the last seven games to raise their overall record to 11-11 and 5-5 record in the North Star.

· The Trojans were 2-1 record against NAIA's Top 25 team during the winning stretch, defeating then-No. 15 York (Neb.) on Dec. 30 and then-No. 12 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Jan. 2.

DSU HANGS ON TO DEFEAT JIMMIES

· After a see-saw battle in the first-half between Jamestown (N.D.) and Dakota State (S.D.) on Jan 20 at DSU Fieldhouse, the Trojans built up the largest lead in the second-half and held off the Jimmies 79-73.

· It was the third straight home victory over UJ in the series meeting at DSU Fieldhouse.

· DSU held a 40-35 halftime advantage after hitting 50 percent from the field (16-of-32) in the first-half.  The Jimmies shot 47.1 percent from the field (16-of-34).

· Kyle Kilgore scored a season-high 29 points for the Trojans.  He was 11-of-16 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.  He also had nine rebounds in the game.

· Kevin Daniels added 16 points off the bench.  Tanner Heiser had 12 points and 6 assists.  Hesier and Justin Folkers each had six rebounds.

· DSU shot a sizzling 53.3 percent overall from the field (32-of-60) compared to UJ 48.4 percent (30-of-62).

TROJANS WIN NSAA OVERTIME THRILLER

· A total of 21 lead changes and 9 ties were featured between Presentation (S.D.) and Dakota State (S.D.) on Jan. 21 at DSU Fieldhouse.

· The Trojans erased a 10-point second-half deficit, trailing 74-64 with 5:45 remaining

· DSU mounted a furious comeback in the final 25 seconds of the game.  Ian Barse made one-of-two free-throws before Justin Folkers rebounded the ball for a tip-in to cut PC's lead to 82-79 with 22 seconds to go.

· After PC missed the front side of the bonus free-throw, Kyle Kilgore rebounded the ball for DSU and gave the ball to Tanner Heiser.  Heiser drained a 3-pointer to knot the game with 11.6 seconds to go and forced overtime.

· Tied at 97-97 in overtime, Heiser hit a jump shot from the free-throw line with :00.8 seconds remaining to secure DSU a victory.

· A total of 3 ties and 5 lead changes were recorded in overtime.  Dakota State was 7-of-9 from the field while Presentation was 4-of-6 field goals.

FIVE DSU HIT DOUBLE FIGURES IN PC'S WIN

· Five Dakota State (S.D.) players scored in double figures during 99-97 overtime thriller over Presentation (S.D.) on Jan. 21.

· Kyle Kilgore led the Trojans with 24 points from his 9-of-11 field goal shooting and 6-of-7 free-throws. 

· Tanner Heiser added 19 points where he was 6-of-12 field goals and 6-of-7 free-throws for DSU.  Kevin Daniels scored 17 points off the bench.  Ian Barse tallied 15 points.  Justin Folkers scored 12 points.

· Kilgore and Bobby Farquah each grabbed six rebounds for Dakota State.  Kilgore, Brendon Boomsma, Barse and Daniels each had two assists.  Heiser stole the ball four times.

KILGORE RECEIVES NORTH STAR HONOR

· Dakota State's (S.D.) Kyle Kilgore was tabbed as North Star Men's basketball Player-of-the-Week No. 11 edition on Jan. 23.

· He scored over 20 points for the last three games, where he scored a season-high 29 points in 79-73 victory over Jamestown (N.D.).  He followed that with 24 points in 99-97 overtime thriller over Presentation (S.D.).

· For the week, Kilgore averaged 26.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Trojans.  He shot a blazing 20-of-27 field goals (74.1 percent) and made 13-of-15 free-throws (86.7 percent).

· Kilgore had scored in double figures 17 times this season for DSU. 

· During his career at Dakota State, Kilgore accumulated 860 points in 51 games (16.9 points per game).  He also averaged 8.3 rebounds per game during his 2-year career at DSU.

TROJANS TEAM LEADERS

· Points:  Kyle Kilgore—337 points (18.7 points per game)

· Field Goal Percentage:  Justin Folkers—60.7 percent (105-of-173 field goals)

· 3-point Field Goal Percentage:  Tanner Heiser—37.3 percent (53-of-142 3-point field goals)

· Free-throw percentage:  Kevin Daniels—82.0 percent (41-of-50 free-throws)

· Rebounds:  Kyle Kilgore—145 rebounds (8.1 rebounds per game)

· Assists:  Tanner Heiser—90 assists—(4.1 assists per game)

· Steals:  Tanner Heiser—35 steals (1.6 steals per game)

· Blocked shots:  Bobby Farquah—12 blocks (0.5 blocked shots per game)

RECORDS WATCH

· Kyle Kilgore totaled 422 rebounds during his career at DSU.  He is 59 rebounds away from join DSU Trojan Men's Basketball Top 10 in career rebounds.

· Tanner Heiser, who is with the DSU men's basketball team for two years, currently tied with Jason DeZeeuw for seventh-most career assists with 233 assists.

· Heiser is also seventh in the DSU record book for most 3-point field goals made with 116 3-pointers.
