OMAHA, Neb. – A total of 13 ties and 18 lead changes were featured in a non-conference men's basketball game between Dakota State (S.D.) and Grace (Neb.) Thursday evening at Jim Classen Gymnasium.  The Royals went to defeat the Trojans in a thrilling overtime game by the score of 83-80.

Dakota State fell to 11-12 overall record, while Grace improved to 12-10 overall record.

The Royals opened up with the biggest lead of the game at 16-9 with twelve minutes and forty-one seconds on the clock.  The Trojans would answer back with 15-8 scoring run to knot the game at 24-24 after a basket by Kyle Kilgore with 5:39 to go in the first-half.

Grace held a slim 33-32 halftime advantage over Dakota State.  The Trojans shot 46.9 percent from the field in the first-half (15-of-32) while the Royals shot 45.7 percent (16-of-35).

Both teams went through a see-saw battle in the second-half, where DSU held the lead for the majority of the half.  Tied at 49-49, the Trojans sparked a 6-0 scoring run to earn a 57-51 lead with less than nine minutes to go in the game.

The Royals rallied back to tie the game at 69-69 with 1:04 remaining.  The Trojans committed a turnover on the next possession, where GU took advantage with a steal and a basket by DJ Hanes for a 71-69 lead with 36 seconds to go.

Kilgore nailed down a field goal to tie the game for the tenth time at 71-71 with 18 seconds to go.  The Royals were unable convert a scoring opportunity on the final possession, extending the game into overtime.

Ian Barse made a jumper to open up the overtime period to give Trojans a 73-71 lead, but the Royals outscored DSU 8-2 to grab a 79-75 lead.

After a pair of free-throws by Hanes to extend GU's lead to 83-80, DSU's Tanner Heiser missed a game-tying 3-pointer as the time expired.

Kilgore led Dakota State with a double-double of 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.  He was 10-of-22 from the field.  Justin Folkers added 19 points and earned six boards.  He was 9-of-14 from the field.  Kevin Daniels scored 12 points off the bench.  Heiser had 10 points and six rebounds.  Barse tallied eight points.

Heiser produced a game-high eight assists for the Trojans.  He also had two steals in the game.  Folkers recorded three blocked shots.

Three GU players posted double-doubles in the game, led by Hanes with 34 points and 11 rebounds.  He had five assists and two steals.  Calisto Nyambura added 20 points and 10 rebounds.  Galat Toang scored 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. 

Hanes and Nyambura each registered two blocks for the Royals.

Both teams shot 34-of-77 from the field (44.2 percent) in the game.  The Trojans were 6-of-24 from the 3-point line (25 percent) compared to Royals' 4-of-17 3-pointers (23.5 percent). 

Grace went to the free-throw line 17 times, making 11 free-throws (64.7 percent).  Dakota State was 6-of-12 free-throws (50 percent).

GU outrebounded DSU 49-38 in the game.

Dakota State concludes their non-conference schedule Sunday afternoon as they stay on the road.  The Trojans visit their in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) with a 4 p.m. tip-off.  The game will be held at the Cimpl Arena in Yankton, S.D.
