YANKTON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) overcame a sluggish start in a non-conference men's basketball game Sunday afternoon at Cimpl Arena and recorded a season series sweep over Mount Marty (S.D.) by the score of 78-53.  The Trojans also won their 10th straight meeting in the series with the Lancers.

Dakota State moved back to .500 with an overall record of 12-12.  The Trojans finished the month of January with a 5-2 record.  Mount Marty, a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, fell to 4-18 overall record and lost their seventh straight game.

Knotted at 7-7, the Lancers used a 10-3 scoring run to open up a 17-10 lead over the Trojans with 8:10 on the clock in the first-half.  From there, DSU exploded with a 22-3 closing run to earn a 32-20 halftime advantage.

Dakota State never looked back in the second-half, maintaining their double-digit lead for the rest of the game.  The Trojans recorded its biggest lead of the game at 69-41 after a 3-pointer by Justin Prue (assisted by Brendon Boomsma) with less than five minutes to go.

DSU outscored MMC 46-33 in the final twenty minutes of the game.

Kyle Kilgore posted a double-double of 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Trojans.  He was 7-of-14 from the field and made all three free-throw attempts.  Justin Folkers and Boomsma each added 12 points.  Ian Barse had eight points. Kevin Daniels and Falcon Albers each scored nine points off the bench.

Folkers collected nine rebounds for Dakota State.  Tanner Heiser had five rebounds.  Bobby Farquah registered a blocked shot.

Heiser tied for the third most steals in a single game in the DSU men's basketball record book (with 4 other former players – Tyrone Gordon, Jr., Mike Larsen and Isaac Clark twice), recording seven steals in the game.  He also dished out six assists.  Boomsma produced four assists.

OJ Thok led the Lancers with 10 points.  Drew Cheskie and Trent Wilson each added eight points.

Patrick Ciganovic grabbed six rebounds for MMC.  Hunter Martin, Ciganovic, Jeremy Grundmayer and Zane Schumaker each had three assists. 

Dakota State shot 44.3 percent overall from the field (31-of-70) compared to Mount Marty 34.4 percent (21-of-61).  The Trojans were 6-of-20 3-pointers (30 percent), while the Lancers made 7 3-pointers in 31 tries (22.6 percent).

DSU outrebounded MMC 46-36.

Dakota State stays on the road next weekend.  The Trojans resume their North Star conference play Friday evening at Waldorf (Iowa).  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Hanson Fieldhouse in Forest City, Iowa.
