GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK

· The Dakota State University men's basketball team (12-12 overall record, 5-5 NSAA) resumes to North Star Athletic Association conference play this weekend, with a pair of key NSAA conference games on the road.

· The Trojans play their final two non-conference games on the road before wrapping up the regular-season with a four-game home stand at DSU Fieldhouse.

· DSU continues their 4-game road trip Friday evening as they visit Waldorf (Iowa) (9-15 overall record, 5-6 NSAA).  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Hanson Fieldhouse (106 S. 6th Street) in Forest City, Iowa.

· Dakota State concludes their four-game trip Saturday evening as they head to La Crosse, Wis. to take on Viterbo (Wis.) (13-11 overall record, 5-6 NSAA).  The game is set for 6 p.m. at R.W. Beggs Gymnasium (400 Viterbo Drive).

TROJANS END NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE WITH A SPLIT

· Dakota State (S.D.) closed out their non-conference regular-season schedule with a split on the road.

· A total of 13 ties and 18 lead changes were featured in a game between the Trojans and Grace (Neb.) on Jan. 26 in Omaha.  DSU fell short in overtime by the score of 83-80.

· The Trojans opened the extra period with a basket by Ian Barse, but the Royals outscored DSU 8-2 to grab a 79-75 lead.

· Kyle Kilgore led Dakota State with a double-double of 21 points and earned 12 rebounds.  He was 10-of-22 from the field.  Justin Folkers added 19 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and registered 3 blocks.  He was 9-of-14 from the field.

· Kevin Daniels scored 12 points off the bench.  Tanner Heiser had 10 points and 6 rebounds.  He produced a game-high eight assists in the game and recorded two steals.

· Both teams shot 34-of-77 from the field (44.2 percent).  DSU was 6-of-24 3-pointers compared to Royals' 4-of-17 from the 3-point line.

· GU was 11-of-17 free-throws while DSU was 6-of-12 from the free-throw line.

· The Trojans overcame a sluggish start to defeat in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) 78-53 on Jan. 29 in Yankton, S.D.

· DSU had won 10 straight meetings with the Lancers and finished the month of January with a 5-2 record.

· Trailing 17-10, DSU used a 22-3 closing run to earn a 32-20 halftime advantage and never looked back.

· Kilgore posted another double-double of 17 points and collected 11 rebounds for Dakota State.  He was 7-of-14 from the field.  Folkers and Brendon Boomsma each had 12 points.

· The Trojans shot 44.3 percent overall from the field (31-of-70) compared to the Lancers' 34.4 percent (21-of-61).  DSU was 6-of-20 3-pointers (30 percent) while MMC was 7-of-31 from the 3-point line. 

· DSU outrebounded MMC 46-36.

KILGORE'S DOUBLE-DOUBLES

· Kyle Kilgore had produced double-doubles in the last two games for Dakota State (S.D.).

· He scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in Trojans' 83-80 overtime defeat at Grace (Neb.) on Jan. 26.  He followed that up with 17 points and 11 rebounds in DSU's 78-53 road victory at Mount Marty (S.D.) on Jan. 29.

· Kilgore had recorded a total of six double-doubles this season for the Trojans.  He accumulated a total of 19 double-doubles during his two-year career (53 games) at DSU.

· Ian Barse and Tanner Heiser each also had a double-double this season.  Barse had 10 points and 10 rebounds versus Midland (Neb.) on Nov. 9, 2016.  Heiser had 25 points and dished out 10 against MMC on Nov. 6, 2016.

NSAA CONFERENCE STANDINGS UPDATE

· Dickinson State (N.D.) currently holds a 2-game lead over No. 19-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) in the North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball conference standings.  The Blue Hawks hold a 10-2 record, while the Bruins own a 7-3 record.

· Jamestown (N.D.) is third with 9-4 conference record, followed by Valley City State (N.D.) fourth with 6-5 record.

· Dakota State (S.D.) is fifth with 5-5 NSAA record.  Waldorf (Iowa) and Viterbo (Wis.) are tied for sixth with 5-6 record.

· Presentation (S.D.) is eighth with 3-9 record, followed by Mayville State (N.D.) 1-11 record.

· Top eight teams in the conference standings will advance to the North Star postseason conference tournament, which is scheduled to kick off on Thursday, Feb. 23.

TROJANS TEAM LEADERS

· Points:  Kyle Kilgore—375 points (18.8 points per game)

· Field Goal Percentage:  Justin Folkers—60.9 percent (120-of-197 field goals)

· 3-point Field Goal Percentage:  Tanner Heiser—36.4 percent (56-of-154 3-point field goals)

· Free-throw percentage:  Kevin Daniels—80.4 percent (45-of-56 free-throws)

· Rebounds:  Kyle Kilgore—168 rebounds (8.4 rebounds per game)

· Assists:  Tanner Heiser—104 assists—(4.3 assists per game)

· Steals:  Tanner Heiser—44 steals (1.8 steals per game)

· Blocked shots:  Bobby Farquah—14 blocks (0.6 blocked shots per game)

DSU IN THE RANKS

· According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Thursday, two Dakota State (S.D.) athletes are ranked in the 'Top 30' in field goal percentage.  Justin Folkers is 16th with 60.9 percent, while Kyle Kilgore ranks  28th with 58.0 percent.

· DSU is 21st in the NAIA in assist/turnover ratio of 1.3.   DSU is 43rd in total assists with 366 and 46th in assists per game (15.3). Tanner Hesier is 32nd in the nation in total assists of 104 and 37th in assists per game (4.3).
