FOREST CITY, Iowa – Dakota State (S.D.) set school records Friday evening at Hanson Fieldhouse, putting an offensive explosion with a 90-55 North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball conference victory over Waldorf (Iowa).  It was the second straight victory for the Trojans, their eight win in the last ten games.

Dakota State also won their 12th straight February game dating back to the last two seasons (9-0 record during the month of February last season).  The Trojans raised their overall record to 13-12 and 6-5 North Star conference record, with a half-game lead for fourth-place over Viterbo (Wis.) where both teams will meet Saturday evening.  Waldorf lost their fourth straight game, falling to 9-16 overall record and 3-9 North Star record.

DSU had won the last four games in the series meeting with WU.

The Trojans kicked off the game by scoring four straight points for a 4-0 lead with seventh minutes and twenty-seven seconds on the clock. 

The Warriors earned its first lead of the game at 12-9 after a 3-pointer by Myles Simmons with 11:41 remaining.  Both teams tied the game twice and changed leads four times before DSU stormed to a huge lead by halftime.

Trailing 18-17, Dakota State outscored Waldorf 28-10 in the final 8:10 of the first-half.  Tanner Heiser closed the first-half by scoring eight straight points for the Trojans.

Hesier poured in 29 points in the first twenty minutes of the game for the Trojans, draining 9-of 12 3-pointers (10-of-13 total field goals in the first-half). 

Dakota State shot a blazing 53.6 percent from the field (15-of-28) in the first-half, including a sizzling 62.5 percent from the 3-point arc (10-of-16).  Waldorf was held to 35.7 percent field goal shooting (10-of-28) and 1-of-4 3-pointers.

The Trojans maintained control for the rest of the game.  Waldorf could get no closer than 20 points at 50-30 with 18:36 remaining.  DSU recorded its biggest lead of the game at 90-52 after a 3-pointer by Falcon Albers with less than 40 seconds left.

DSU outscored WU 45-27 in the final twenty minutes of the game.

Heiser finished the game by tying his career-high 35 points (last time versus Northwestern, Iowa on Oct. 27, 2016 in DSU's home opener) for the Trojans.  He was 12-of-17 from the field and broke a 30-year old school record for most 3-pointers in the game.  He drained 11 3-pointers in the game in 16 tries, breaking the previous old record of 10 3-pointers set by Rick Dunlap during the 1986-87 season versus Dordt (Iowa).

Three other DSU players scored in double figures in the game.  Albers scored a season-high 14 points off the bench.  He was 5-of-8 from the field and 4-of-6 from the 3-point line.  Brendon Boomsma scored 13 points (4-of-7 field goals and 3-of-5 3-pointers).  Kyle Kilgore had 11 points.

Kevin Daniels tallied seven points for Dakota State.  Justin Folkers had six points.

Kilgore led the Trojans with six rebounds.  Ian Barse and Nathaniel Rauen each pulled down five rebounds.  Daniels and Bobby Farquah each registered a block.

Daniels produced five assists for DSU.  Boomsma added three assists.  Heiser stole the ball twice.

Michael Morgan scored 15 points for the Warriors.  Kaden Verdin added eight points.  Simmons had seven points.

Gabriel Munoz recorded a game-high 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots for WU.  Morgan added eight rebounds.  Brady Kuchinka dished out four assists.

Dakota State finished the game by shooting 50 percent from the field (32-of-64).  The Trojans tied a team record for most 3-pointers made in a game for the second time with 19 3-pointers (last time versus Mount Marty, S.D. at the Sanford Pentagon on Nov. 6, 2016).

DSU held WU to 30.5 percent from the field (18-of-59).  The Warriors were 3-of-17 from the 3-point line.

Waldorf made 16 free-throws in 22 tries, while Dakota State was perfect 7-of-7 free-throws.

WU outrebounded DSU 41-35. 

The Trojans outscored the Warriors 20-7 and 16-0 in transition points.

Dakota State concludes their four-game road trip with another key North Star Athletic Association conference action on Saturday evening.  The Trojans visit Viterbo with a game time starting at 6 p.m.  The game will take place at R.W Beggs Gymnasium in La Crosse, Wis.
