MADISON, S.D. – After falling behind by 11 points to nationally-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) Friday evening in the North Star Athletic Association Women's Basketball conference game at DSU Fieldhouse, Dakota State (S.D.) pulled in within two points by halftime.  The Blue Hawks went on to pull away in the final ten minutes of the game to hang on for their 14th straight victory after a 70-59 win over the Lady T's.

Dakota State, kicked off their four-game home stand Friday evening, fell to 8-18 overall record and 5-8 record in the North Star conference games.  Dickinson State, No. 21 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, raised their overall record to 21-5 and 13-1 NSAA record.

The Lady T's missed their first nine shots of the game to allow the Blue Hawks gain an 8-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game.  DaSU ended that scoring drought with a 3-pointer by Cassie Jones (assisted by Kelley Criddle) with 5:14 on the clock (DiSU led 8-3).

Dakota State trimmed Dickinson State's lead by two points at 12-10 with 2:34 left in the first-period.  The Blue Hawks then went on to close the first quarter with a 13-4 run to grab a 25-14 lead.

The Lady T's rallied back to tie the game for the first time at 29-29 with 3:10 remaining before halftime.  Ashley Bentz-Laub made a fast-break lay-up to give the Blue Hawks a 31-29 lead with 1:36 left in the second quarter.

Neither team could score in the final 1:36 of the first-half as Dickinson State held on to a slim two-point lead by intermission.  The Lady T's shot 36.4 percent from the field (12-of-33) compared to the Blue Hawks 30.8 percent (12-of-39). 

Dickinson State kept their lead in the third quarter, but Dakota State was able to knot the game twice in the period.  Criddle made a basket with 3:32 on the clock to tie the game at 39-39 and BreeAna Olson's basket for a 41-41 tie with 2:33 left in the third quarter.

The Blue Hawks led 48-45 after the third quarter.

Dickinson State opened up the fourth quarter with an 8-0 scoring run to stretch their lead to 56-45 with 5:39 remaining in the game.  The Lady T's ended their scoreless drought after a pair of free-throws by Jamie Tebben with 5:11 left (DaSU trailed 56-47).

Dakota State could get no closer than six points on two different occasions (58-52 with 4:02 left and 60-54 with 2:43 remaining).

The Blue Hawks secured the game by making 7-of-10 free-throws in the final 1:36 of the game.  Dickinson State outscored Dakota State 22-14 in the final ten minutes.

Kennedy Wagner led the Lady T's with 14 points.  Tebben scored 13 points off the bench.  Jones tallied 10 points.  Olson had seven points.

Olson pulled down seven rebounds for Dakota State.  Tebben added six rebounds.  Wagner had five rebounds.  Jones, Olson and Britley Plautz each registered a blocked shot.

Shemika Frazier dished out a game-high seven assists for DaSU.  She had two steals in the game.  Wagner tallied four assists.

Megan Klein posted a double-double of 19 points and earned 22 rebounds for Dickinson State.  Taylor Henningsgard added 17 points.  Lorna Shepherd had 16 points and five assists.

Klein recorded four blocks in the game for the Blue Hawks.  Bentz-Laub stole the ball three times.  Shepard had five assists.

Both team struggled from the field, shooting below 40 percent.  Dickinson State was 25-of-64 from the field (39.1 percent) compared to Dakota State 22-of-58 field goals (37.9 percent).  Both teams made four 3-pointers.

DiSU made 16-of-22 free-throws (72.7 percent).  DaSU was 11-of-15 from the free-throw line (73.3 percent).

The Blue Hawks outrebounded the Lady T's 43-37 in the game. 

DaSU's bench outscored DiSU's bench 24-9.  The Blue Hawks outscored the Lady T's 34-26 inside the paint and 12-8 in second-chance points.

Dakota State remains home Saturday as they welcome Valley City State (N.D.).  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.  The Lady T's basketball team will be holding their Parents' Night recognition at approximately 10-15 minutes prior to tip-off.

Dickinson State (N.D.) won't return back to action until next Friday as they wrap up their regular-season at home.  The Blue Hawks host No. 11-ranked Jamestown (N.D.) in the battle of the top two teams in the North Star.  The game is slated for 6:30 p.m. (Central Time)/5:30 p.m. (Mountain Time) at Scott Gymnasium in Dickinson, N.D.
