GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK

· The Dakota State University (S.D.) men's basketball team (14-14 overall record, 7-7 NSAA) wraps up their regular-season with a pair of North Star Athletic Association conference games this weekend at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D.

· The Trojans host the North Star's conference leader and nationally-ranked No. 21 Bellevue (Neb.) (19-8 overall record, 11-3 NSAA record) on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.  'Black-Out Night' is the theme for the game to help raise Cancer Awareness.  Madison Regional Health Systems is the Game Sponsor Night.

· The regular-season schedule concludes on Saturday evening as DSU hosts Mayville State (N.D.) (8-18, 1-14 NSAA) at 5 p.m.

· Prior to the men's warm-up on Saturday, the Trojans will be honoring four seniors—Ian Barse, Tanner Heiser, Kyle Kilgore and Nathaniel Rauen—in their final regular-season home collegiate basketball game at DSU Fieldhouse.

· The North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball Postseason Conference Tournament kicks off on Thursday, Feb. 23.  The postseason pairings and time will be announced on Sunday afternoon.

· Dakota State (S.D.) will provide a free live video and audio broadcast of the Trojans' basketball games on Friday and Saturday.

TROJANS WIN ON LAST SHOT, FALL TO VCSU

· Dakota State (S.D.) kicked off their four-game home stand last weekend with a split at DSU Fieldhouse.

· Trailing 72-71 versus Dickinson State (N.D.), who entered as the conference's leader, Tanner Heiser delivered a game-winning clutch shot with just :00.6 seconds remaining to give the Trojans a 73-72 victory on Feb. 10.  The Blue Hawks fell down to second-place in the standings after the defeat.

· Dakota State held a slim 39-38 halftime lead.  Both teams scored 34 points in the second-half.  A total of 12 lead changes and 4 ties were registered in the game.

· Four Trojan players scored in double figures, led by Heiser with 16 points.  Brendon Boomsma added 15 points.  Ian Barse scored 12 points.  Kyle Kilgore had 11 points.

· Kilgore grabbed eight rebounds for Dakota State.  Heiser had five rebounds and produced a game-high seven assists.

· Dakota State could not overcome Valley City State's (N.D.) red-hot shooting on Feb. 11.  The Vikings shot 56.9 percent from the field to defeat the Trojans by the score of 90-75.

· The first-half featured a series of runs by both teams with nine lead changes and two ties.  VCSU closed the first-half with a 7-0 lead to take a 47-45 lead.

· The Vikings outscored the Trojans 43-30 in the second-half to secure the victory.  Valley City State was 56.7 percent from the field in the final twenty minutes, holding Dakota State to 35.5 percent field goal shooting.

· Kilgore posted a double-double of 16 points and earned 10 rebounds for DSU.  Boomsma led the Trojans with 17 points.  Heiser added 14 assists and dished out six assists.  Justin Folkers scored 12 points.  Barse had five assists.

· Bobby Farquah scored nine points and collected five rebounds off the bench for Dakota State.

· VCSU made 33-of-58 from the field, including 12-off-22 from the 3-point line.  DSU was 28-of-64 from the field and 7-of-19 3-pointers.  Both teams made 12 free-throws in the game.

DSU TO HONOR FOUR SENIORS

· The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan men's basketball team will be honoring four seniors—Ian Barse, Tanner Heiser, Kyle Kilgore and Nathaniel Rauen—on Saturday prior to the men's warm-ups.

· Barse and  Rauen had been with the Trojan Men's Basketball program for the last four years.  Heiser and Kilgore were both junior transfers to DSU in 2015-16 season.

· They were members of the DSU men's basketball team that won the NSAA Men's Basketball Conference Regular-Season and Conference Tournament titles last season.  DSU also qualified for the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament.

· Barse and Rauen were also members of the Trojan men's basketball team that won the 2014-15 North Star Athletic Association conference regular-season and conference postseason tournament titles.  The Trojans also qualified for the national tournament that year.

DSU IN THE RANKS

· According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website, Dakota State (S.D.) ranks 19th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio of 1.3.  The Trojans are 34th in the NAIA for most total assists with 428 and 39th in assists per game (15.3).

· Kyle Kilgore is 25th in the nation in field goal percentage (58.3 percent) and 36th in total rebounds per game (2.7).  He is 39th in NAIA in defensive rebounds per game (5.9).

· Tanner Heiser is 21st in the nation for most steals with 51.  He is also 27th in steals per game (1.8), 28th in total 3-pointers made (76) and 29th in total assists (124).

TROJANS TEAM LEADERS

· Points:  Kyle Kilgore—425 points (17.7 points per game)

· Field Goal Percentage:  Justin Folkers—59.5 percent (132-of-222 field goals)

· 3-point Field Goal Percentage:  Tanner Heiser—40.0 percent (76-of-190 3-point field goals)

· Free-throw percentage:  Kevin Daniels—81.0 percent (47-of-58 free-throws)

· Rebounds:  Kyle Kilgore—200 rebounds (8.3 rebounds per game—36th in the nation)

· Assists:  Tanner Heiser—124 assists—29th in the nation (4.4 assists per game)

· Steals:  Tanner Heiser—51 steals—21st in the nation (1.8 steals per game)

· Blocked shots:  Bobby Farquah—15 blocks (0.6 blocked shots per game)

NSAA POSTSEASON BEGINS NEXT WEEK

· The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Men's Basketball Postseason Conference Tournament kicks off on Thursday, Feb. 23 with four quarterfinal games.

· The pairings will be announced on Sunday afternoon.

· Semifinals are set for Saturday at higher seeds, with the championship game scheduled for Monday evening at the highest remaining seed in the tournament.
