MADISON, S.D. – Mayville State (N.D.) led wire to wire Saturday evening at DSU Fieldhouse in their 62-50 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Men's Basketball conference victory over Dakota State (S.D.).  It was the final regular-season finale game for both teams.

Dakota State fell back to .500 at 15-15 overall record and 8-8 NSAA conference record.  The Trojans finished with a two-way tie with Valley City State (N.D.) in the conference standings.  Mayville State concluded their season with an overall record of 9-18 and 2-14 record in North Star conference play.  The Comets are eliminated from postseason.

MSU opened up the game with an 8-1 lead with fifteen minutes and twenty-three seconds on the clock.  The Trojans ended their scoring drought with a basket by Bobby Farquah with 13:53 left in the first-half (DSU trailed 8-3).

Max Cooper made a field goal to give the Comets their first double-digit lead of the game at 18-7 with 9:24 to go before intermission.  The Comets expanded their lead to 21-8 after a 3-pointer by Josh Foulds.

The Trojans responded with a 19-9 outburst to cut MSU's lead to 27-26 with 2:04 on the clock after a basket by Kyle Kilgore.

Mayville State held a 30-26 halftime advantage over Dakota State.  The Comets were 13-of-33 from the field (39.4 percent) compared to the Trojans 9-of-25 field goals (36 percent).

Kilgore made two straight baskets to kick off the second-half as the Trojans tied the game at 34-34 with 19:13 remaining.

MSU answered back by scoring seven straight points to earn a 37-30 lead with 14:42 left.

The Comets maintained control for the rest of the game, leading as many as 17 points at 58-41 with 2:15 remaining.

Mayville State outscored Dakota State 32-24 in the final twenty minutes of the game.  MSU shot a sizzling 51.7 percent from the field (15-of-29) compared to DSU 9-of-22 field goals (40.9 percent) in the second-half.

Kilgore finished the game with a game-high 18 points for the Trojans.  He was 6-of-11 from the field and made 6-of-9 free-throws.  Brendon Boomsma and Ian Barse each added eight points.  Justin Folkers scored seven points off the bench. 

Folkers led Dakota State with eight rebounds.  Barse added seven rebounds.  Kevin Daniels had six rebounds.

Tanner Heiser dished out four assists and stole the ball twice for DSU.  Kilgore added three assists.

Cooper scored 14 points off the bench for Mayville State.  Conor Quinn added 12 points.  Lindgren had 1 points.

Ben Maranan recorded seven rebounds for the Comets.  Austin Schultz had six rebounds and four assists.  Lindgren had three steals.

MSU shot 28-of-62 overall from the field compared to DSU 18-of-47 field goals (38.3 percent).  The Comets were 6-of-18 from the 3-point line, while the Trojans hit 6-of-23 3-pointers.

Dakota State was 8-of-12 at the free-throw line.  Mayville State did not attempt a free-throw in the game.

MSU outrebounded DSU 37-29.  The Comets outscored the Trojans 16-6 in points off turnovers, 34-20 inside the paint and 29-13 in bench points.

The Trojans honored four seniors prior to the warm-ups.  Barse, Heiser, Kilgore and Nathaniel Rauen played their final career collegiate basketball regular-season at DSU Fieldhouse.

Dakota State prepares for the North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball Conference Postseason Tournament, starting on Thursday.  Mayville State concluded their 2016-17 season Saturday.
