· The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan Baseball team (0-0 overall record) opens up the 2017 campaign on Monday as they kick off their six-game stretch in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational Games

· The games will be held at Kino Sports Complex—home of Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium the former spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox.  The fields are located at 702 S Craycoft Rd #F in Tucson, Ariz.

· DSU opens up the tournament with a doubleheader versus Grand View (Iowa) (4-2 overall record) on Monday (March 6).  First pitch is set for 10 a.m. (CT)/9 a.m. (MT).  The doubleheader takes place on Field #4.

· The Trojans continue their action on Wednesday with a single game versus Northwestern (Iowa) (4-4 overall record) at 5 p.m. (CT)/4 p.m. (MT) on Field #4.  Both teams will play again on Saturday, March 11 at 10 a.m. (CT)/9 a.m. (MT) at the Stadium.

· Dakota State concludes the invitational against a pair of NCAA Division II teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.  The Trojans will face St. Cloud State (Minn.) (1-1), coached by former Trojan head coach Pat Dolan from 2002-07, on Saturday, March 11 at 1:30 p.m. (CT)/12:30 p.m. (MT) on Field #7.

· DSU closes out the tournament on Sunday, March 12 against Southwest Minnesota State (0-0 overall record).  First pitch is set for 10 a.m. (CT)/9 a.m. (MT).


· Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational Games have set up a website for fans to view.  Go to to view for more information on about the invitational, travel information and schedule.

· Tucson Invitational Games have all games at one location, on-field batting practice, major league facilities (former Chicago White Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks) and batting cages available. 


· Dakota State (S.D.) completed the 2016 baseball season with an overall record of 20-27 and 13-10 record in the North Star Athletic Association conference.

· The Trojans finished third in the North Star conference standings, but fell to 0-2 record in the postseason conference tournament.

· DSU's 13 conference victories are the most conference wins since joining the North Star conference in 2013.  In addition, it was the first time since 2010 that the Trojans recorded a winning percentage during conference play (12-8 record in the Dakota Athletic Conference).

· Three former Trojans were named to NSAA All-Conference Team, led by Jake Harris who was a two-time First-Team All-Conference.  Ian Barker and Jordan Hofer were selected to Second Team All-Conference.

· Barker was selected to the NAIA Baseball Player-of-the-Week on April 26, 2016 after belting a total of six home runs during the week.  He was 12-of-20 at the plate along with two doubles and a triple.  He drove in 12 runs.  Barker also broke the DSU school record in career triples during that week. 

· Four DSU baseball athletes were honored by the North Star conference as its Scholar-Athletes.  They were Jalen Boyd, Brady Wauer, David Novak and Jacob Arlt.


· Dakota State (S.D.) is scheduled to play 35 regular-season games during the 2017 season.

· After playing their six-game stretch in Arizona, the Trojans return home-and-away series with Brair Cliff (Iowa) starting at Flynn Field on March 18 (and in Sioux City, Iowa on March 19).

· The North Star conference season gets underway on March 25-26 with a four-game series at Viterbo (Wis.).  The conference postseason tournament takes place in Valley City, N.D. and Jamestown, N.D. in early May.

· DSU plays 16 of the last 17 regular-season games at Flynn Field in Madison, including a 12-game home stand.  The Trojans visit NCAA Division I South Dakota State on April 25.


· Dakota State (S.D.) have 14 players listed on this year's baseball roster.  Garrett Mullins is the lone senior on this year's team.

· The Trojans have four juniors on the team.  They are Garrison Collier, Smith Kemper, Connor Nagel and Juan Sermo.

· A total of seven sophomores are listed on the DSU Baseball Trojan roster.  They are Jalen Boyd, Brad Frandsen, Andrew Hesse, Derek Hoefert, David Kirby, Dyshawn Proudlove and Zach Sutera.

· Hayden Rainey, Justin Mettling and Trey Randel are the freshmen on this year Trojans' baseball roster.

· Geoff Schaab is in his first year as an interim head coach for DSU Trojan Baseball team, assisted by Brady Banse.


· The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) has announced its Baseball Coaches' Preseason Poll on Jan. 23.

· The Trojans were predicted to finish sixth in the preseason poll, tallying a total of 47 points.

· Bellevue (Neb.) was the unanimous favorite to win the NSAA conference title for the second straight year.  Jamestown (N.D.) was picked to finish second, followed by Mayville State (N.D.) third, Dickinson State (N.D.) fourth and Waldorf (Iowa) fifth.

· Valley City State (N.D.) was predicted to finish seventh, while Presentation (S.D.) was picked to finish ninth and Winnipeg (Manitoba) tenth.

· NSAA Baseball conference have two automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
