· The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan Baseball team (0-8 overall record, 0-0 North Star Athletic Association conference record) opens up the North Star baseball conference season with a four-game series this weekend.

· The Trojans visit Viterbo (Wis.) (2-17 overall record, 0-0 NSAA conference record) in both teams' conference openers.

· The North Star's four-game series will be played at Copeland Park (1130 Copeland Park Drive) in La Crosse, Wis.  Copeland Park is a turf field where the La Crosse Loggers (Northwood League team) play.

· Doubleheaders kick off at 12 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. on Sunday.


· Viterbo (Wis.) will provide the live stats/play-by-play of the baseball four-game series on Saturday and Sunday.

· Dakota State's (S.D.) next 24 of 25 games are North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference games within a month.

· The Trojans first eight NSAA conference games will be on the road, with a four-game series at Viterbo (Wis.) this weekend and at Waldorf (Iowa) next weekend.

· DSU is scheduled to play their last 16 North Star conference games at Flynn Field.  The Trojans will host Bellevue (Neb.) on April 7-8, Winnipeg (Manitoba) on April 14-15, Valley City State (N.D.) on April 22-23 and Presentation (S.D.) on April 28-29.

· Dakota State is slated to visit NCAA Division I South Dakota State on April 25.


· Dakota State (S.D.) jumped to a pair of early leads in a non-conference doubleheader at Briar Cliff (Iowa) in Sioux City, Iowa on March 19.

· The Trojans raced to a 5-1 lead in the first game of the doubleheader, thanks to Smith Kemper's 3-run home run blast.

· The Chargers outscored DSU 19-3 in the final five-and-half innings to earn a 20-8 victory.

· Kemper was 1-of-2 at the plate with a home run, two walks and drove in three walks for Dakota State.  He also had a stolen base.

· Garrett Mullins added a double, walk and two RBIs for DSU.  Juan Sermo tallied a double and a walk.  David Kirby recorded a hit and an RBI.  Zach Sutera had three walks and scored twice.

· BCU outhit DSU 16-5 in the game.  The Trojans' offense had nine walks compared to the Chargers' six walks.  DSU left nine runners on base, while BCU had eight runners left on base.

· Dakota State stormed to a 2-0 lead in the second game of the doubleheader.

· The Chargers scored a combined seven runs in the first two innings and never looked back as they swept the Trojans with an 11-3 game two victory.

· Mullins was 1-of-1 at the plate with a single, two walks and an RBI for DSU.  Jalen Boyd added two singles.  Kemper and Connor Nagel each had a hit.  Sermo produced an RBI.

· Briar Cliff had 12 hits in the game compared to Dakota State 5 hits. 


· Dakota State (S.D.) and Viterbo (Wis.) met for the first-ever North Star conference meeting last season at Flynn Field.

· The Trojans took three games in the four-game series, winning the doubleheader by the scores of 15-6 and 9-6 on April 23, 2016.  The V-Hawks and Trojans split a doubleheader on April 24, 2016 with the V-Hawks winning the first game 8-6 in 10-inning affair before DSU winning the final game of the series 6-5.

· Both teams met again for the fifth meeting of the season on May 7, 2016 in the loser's bracket of the North Star Athletic Association Baseball conference tournament in Jamestown, N.D.  VU won by the score of 7-4.


· According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Thursday, Dakota State ranks 10th in the nation in triples per game.   The Trojans average 0.5 triples per game (4 total triples).

· Dyshawn Proudlove ranks second in the NAIA with 0.3 triples per game for the Trojans.  He also ranks 37th in the nation in slugging percentage of .762.

· DSU's Connor Nagel and Smith Kemper each rank No. 49 in the nation in triples per game (0.1).

· Garrison Collier, Andrew Hesse and Jalen Boyd each rank No. 1 in fielding percentage of 1.000 for Dakota State.

· Trojan Collier is 29th in the nation in total walks allowed with four on the pitching mound.
