FOREST CITY, Iowa – Dakota State (S.D.) could not swing back in the winning column Sunday afternoon at Forest City High School Baseball Field, dropping the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Baseball doubleheader versus Waldorf (Iowa).  The Warriors won by the scores of 22-6 and 20-6.

Dakota State fell to 1-15 overall record and 1-6 record in the North Star conference games.  Waldorf improved to 11-23 overall record and 4-4 NSAA record.

Game 1 – Waldorf (Iowa) 22, Dakota State (S.D.) 6 – FINAL/7 innings

Dakota State grabbed the first lead of the game in the first game of the doubleheader.  The Trojans scored twice in the top first, thanks to Smith Kemper's double followed by Juan Sermo's 2-run home run for DSU's 2-0 lead.

Waldorf answered back with four runs scored in the bottom first inning to overtake a 4-2 lead over the Trojans.  WU scored three times in the bottom second inning to widen their lead to 7-2.

DSU scored once in the top half of the third inning.  Kemper hit a single with one out and advanced to second base after Sermo's fly out to right field.  Connor Nagel produced an RBI single to score Kemper as the Trojans trailed 7-3.

Mitchell Keeran recorded an RBI fielder's choice in the bottom third as their lead grew to 8-3.

Dakota State plated two runs in the top fourth inning to cut WU's lead to 8-5.  Garrett Mullins hit a double.  David Kirby reached on base by a walk and advanced Mullins to second base.  Trey Randel hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Mullins to third base and Kirby to second base.

Zach Sutera recorded an RBI ground out to score Mullins as the Trojans reduced their deficit to 8-4 (Kirby advanced to third base).  Garrison Collier followed that up with an RBI single to score Kirby, trimming Warriors' lead down to three runs.

Waldorf's offensive exploded for 14 runs in the bottom fourth inning as their lead ballooned to 22-5.

DSU scored once in the top seventh inning.  Collier reached on base by WU's defensive error and advanced to second base.  Andrew Hesse hit a single to advance Collier to third base.  Kemper hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Collier (WU led 22-6).

The Warriors secured the game as the Trojans left a runner when the game ended.

Kemper went 2-of-3 at the plate with a double, single and drove in a run for Dakota State.  Collier and Nagel each added two singles and an RBI.  Sermo had a home run and an RBI.  Hesse and Mullins each had a hit.

Riley MacDonald, Mitchell Keeran and Miguel Castro each had two hits and three RBIs for Waldorf.

WU outhit DSU 15-9 in the game.  The Warriors left 12 runners on base compared to the Trojans 5 runners left on base.

David Kirby (L, 0-5) recorded the loss on the pitching mound for Dakota State.  He worked for three innings and allowed eight runs (two unearned).  Justin Mettling tossed two outs in relief.  Brad Frandsen pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief and limited WU to three hits.

Dave Erickson (W, 1-7) pitched a complete game victory for Waldorf.  He gave up six runs (one unearned) on nine hits.

Game 2 – Waldorf (Iowa) 20, Dakota State (S.D.) 6 – FINAL

Waldorf (Iowa) raced to a 10-0 lead after scoring 10 times in the bottom first inning in the four-game series finale.

Dakota State scored twice in the top second inning.  Sermo led off with a walk.  Nagel followed up with a single and advanced Sermo to second base.  Kirby added a walk with one out to set up a bases loaded situation for the Trojans.

Randel reached on base by WU's defensive error and recorded an RBI to score Sermo for Trojans' first run of the game.  Sutera added an RBI ground out to score Nagel as DSU trailed 10-2.

Bruce Mau hit a 2-run home run in the bottom second inning to extend their lead to 12-2.  The Warriors added a run in the fourth inning to make it 13-2.

DSU put together a 4-run fifth inning to reduce their deficit to 13-6.  Hesse was hit-by-pitch with one out.  Kemper reached on base caused by WU's defensive error and advanced Hesse to second base.

Sermo drilled an RBI double to score Hesse (Kemper advanced to third base) as the Trojans cut Warriors' lead to 13-3 in the top fifth.  Mullins added a 2-RBI double to score Sermo and Kemper as DSU trailed 13-5.

Kirby produced an RBI single to score Mullins as Dakota State reduced their deficit down to seven runs.

The Warriors answered back with six runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning, extending their lead to 19-6.  WU added a run in the sixth inning to make it 20-6.

Mullins and Sermo each had a double for the Trojans.  Mullins collected two RBIs in the game, while Sermo had an RBI.  Kirby recorded a single, two walks and an RBI.  Randel had an RBI.  Nagel and Hesse each had a hit.

Mau went 3-of-4 at the plate with three hits and drove in four runs for the Warriors.  Jacob Tedesco and Alex Remy each added two hits and three RBIs. 

WU outhit DSU 12-5 in the game.  The Warriors left 10 runners on base while the Trojans had 6 runners left on base.

Randel (L, 0-2) took the loss after tossing 2 2/3 innings for Dakota State.  Dyshawn Proudlove pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief.  Mullins also pitched the fifth and sixth innings on the pitching mound.

Waldorf's Michael Keeran (W, 3-5) earned the victory after working for five innings.  Dean Mick tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
