GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK

· The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan Softball team (11-20 overall record, 4-10 North Star conference record) plays their season home opener this weekend at Thue Softball Complex (on South Egan Ave.) in Madison, S.D. 

· The Trojans host the North Star's conference leader Bellevue (Neb.) (27-8 overall record, 8-2 North Star record) in a four-game series.  The Bruins are currently on an eight-game winning streak, which they will play a non-conference doubleheader Thursday evening at Midland (Neb.).

· The four-game series kick off on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.  Both teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday slated to start at 12 p.m.

· DSU continues their 10-game home stand Tuesday evening as they host their long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) (11-22 overall record) in a non-conference doubleheader.

· First game of the doubleheader is set for 5 p.m. at Thue Softball Complex.

DSU @ MC POSTPONED TO APRIL 30

· Dakota State (S.D.) was originally scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader at nationally-ranked Morningside (Iowa), Thursday, April 6.

· Morningside had to play their make-up conference games scheduled for Thursday, forcing the doubleheader postponement with DSU.  The make-up date is set for Sunday, April 30 in Sioux City, Iowa.

WARRIORS TAKE THREE GAMES FROM TROJANS IN NSAA'S FOUR-GAME SERIES

· Waldorf (Iowa) took three games from Dakota State (S.D.) in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) four-game series last weekend in Forest City, Iowa.

· The Warriors won the series opening game on April 1, but the Trojans bounced back in the winning column with an 8-5 victory.

· Trailing 5-4 before entering the top fifth inning of the second game, Emma Marsh blasted a 3-run home run as Dakota State regained their lead at 7-5.

· Tatum Ronke added an RBI sacrifice fly to in the top sixth frame to extend DSU's lead to 8-5.

· Marsh finished the game with a home run and drove in three runs for the Trojans.  Kayla Schmell added two singles and two RBIs.  Stewart had two hits and an RBI.

· Megan Zephier recorded two doubles in the game for Dakota State.  Ronke and Jasmin Lucero each had a hit and an RBI.

· Kelly Drake tossed a complete game victory in the pitching circle for the Trojans.  She gave up five runs (two unearned) on seven hits.  She struck out four WU's batters.

· Waldorf held on to defeat Dakota State in the third game of the four-game series on April 2.  After WU jumped to a 3-0 early lead, DSU rallied back with 3 runs scored in the top fourth inning to knot the game at 3-3, highlighted by Kailee McFadden's 2-RBI double.

· The Warriors scored three runs in the bottom fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead.  The Trojans mounted a comeback in the top seventh inning, but fell short after scoring two runs as WU held on to a 6-5 victory.

· The Warriors closed the series with a 10-2 victory over the Trojans.

· Stewart batted .500 during the four-game series by going 7-of-14 at the plate with a double and a home run (.786 slugging percentage).  Marsh drove in five runs in the series for DSU.

· DSU's McFadden and Peyton Brokiewicz each hit three doubles in the four-game series.

DSU RECORDS WATCH

· Nicole Stewart hit eight home runs this season for Dakota State (S.D.), which currently ties for second-most home runs (with Jeny Garst in 2004) in a single-season in the Trojan Softball record book.

· Samantha Mitchell holds the school record with 11 home runs in a single-season in 2014.

· Stewart's eight home runs also ranks her seventh in the Trojan Softball record book for career home runs.  Brittany Hill holds the school record with 17 career home runs from 2012-15.

· Peyton Brokiewicz is tied for sixth with most doubles in a single season with 13 doubles in the record book.  She tied with Brittany Hill and Elizabeth Rubalcava both in 2013, Sylvia Leon in 2009, Allie Gilbert in 2005 and Kendra Wessier in 2004.

DSU IN THE RANKS

· According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Thursday, Dakota State ranks 23rd in the nation in total doubles with 56 and 27th in doubles per game with an average of 1.8 doubles.

· Peyton Brokiewicz ranks 16th in the nation in total doubles with 13.  She averages 0.4 doubles per game, which is 23rd-best in the NAIA.

· The Trojans are 34th in the nation in home runs per game (0.6) and 40th in slugging percentage of .613.

· Nicole Stewart smashed a total of eight home runs this season for Dakota State, which is 24th-most home runs in the NAIA.

· She also averages 0.3 home runs per game for the Trojans.  She is 30th in the nation in home runs per game.
