OMAHA, Neb. – Dakota State (S.D.) faced the North Star Athletic Association's (NSAA) Baseball conference leader and nationally-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) in a doubleheader Friday at Westgate Field.  The Bruins earned a pair of victories over the Trojans by the scores of 10-0 in eight innings and 13-3.

Dakota State fell to 1-19 overall record on the season and 1-9 record in the North Star conference games.  Bellevue, ranked No. 5 in the latest NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, won their 24th straight game to raise their overall record to 31-6 and remained undefeated in NSAA conference play with 10-0 record.

Both teams conclude their four-game series Saturday afternoon at Roddy Field in Bellevue, Neb.  First game of the doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m.

Game 1:  #5 Bellevue (Neb.) 10, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL/8 innings

There were no score after the first two innings in the first game of the four-game series.

Derik Bontempo hit an RBI single to score the first run of the game as Bellevue grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom third frame.

The Bruins made it 2-0 in the bottom fourth.  Joe Moran led off the bottom fourth with a single and swiped to second base.  Moran then advanced to third base by DSU's wild pitch and scored home from another wild pitch by DSU.

Dakota State was unable to score their first run of the game as they left runners on third and first base in the top fifth inning.

Diego Iribarren and Jake Browne each hit 2-RBI single to extend Bellevue's lead to 6-0 in the bottom fifth inning.

The Bruins scored four runs in the bottom eighth inning, securing the victory in a nine-inning game.

Connor Nagel went 2-of-4 at the plate with two singles for the Trojans.  Jalen Boyd, Smith Kemper, Juan Sermo and David Kirby each added a single.  Kemper walked once.

Moran was 4-of-5 with a double, three singles and scored twice for BU.  He had three stolen bases.  Bontempo added two hits and an RBI.  Iribarren had two hits and three RBIs.  Miles Campbell had a double and an RBI.  Matt Evans, Todd Nicks, Browne and Riley Baasch each recorded a hit.

Bellevue outhit Dakota State 13-6 in the game.  The Bruins left 11 runners on base compared to the Trojans 8 runners left on base.

Kirby (L, 0-6) took the loss on the pitching mound for DSU.  He worked for 4 2/3 innings and gave up six runs (three unearned) on seven hits.  He recorded four strikeouts.  Boyd tossed 2 2/3 innings in relief and allowed four runs on six hits. 

Ben McKendall (W, 6-0) pitched a complete game victory for BU.  He pitched eight innings and limited the Trojans to six hits.  He struck out 13 DSU's batters.

Game 2:  #5 Bellevue (Neb.) 13, Dakota State (S.D.) 3 – FINAL

Bellevue scored at least one run in the first five innings and never looked back in the second game of the doubleheader Friday.

Bontempo hit an RBI single followed by Nicks' RBI double to open up a 2-0 lead for the Bruins in the bottom first inning.

The Trojans snapped their scoring drought with a run scored in the top second inning.  Nagel led off with a walk.  Kirby hit a single with one out and advanced Nagel to second base.  After Brad Frandsen's ground out to advance Nagel to third and Kirby to second base, Andrew Hesse produced an RBI single to score Nagel as DSU trimmed BU's lead to 2-1.

Bellevue scored four runs in the bottom second frame as Bellevue's lead ballooned to 6-1.  BU added three runs in the bottom third inning to make it 9-1.

Moran smashed a solo home run as Bellevue's lead grew to 10-1 in the fourth inning.  The Bruins scored three times in the bottom fifth for a 13-1 lead, highlighted by Lumus Russell's 2-RBI single.

Dakota State plated two runs in the top sixth inning.  Derek Hoefert reached on base by a walk with one out.  Kemper added a walk and advanced Hoefert to second base.  Sermo reached on base by BU's defensive error to set up a bases loaded situation with one out for the Trojans.

Nagel hit a 2-RBI single to score Hoefert and Kemper as the Trojans reduced their deficit to 13-3 in the top sixth inning.

Nagel had a single and drove in two runs for DSU.  Hesse added a single and an RBI.  Frandsen and Kirby each had a hit.  Boyd reached on base by a walk two times.  Hoefert, Kemper and Nagel each had a walk. 

Moran and Campbell each had two hits and an RBI for BU.  Nicks added two hits and two RBIs.  Evans, Jordan Baughman and Iribarren each had a hit and an RBI.

Bellevue had 14 hits in the game compared to Dakota State 4 hits.  The Bruins left eight runners on base while the Trojans left two runners on base.

Dyshawn Proudlove (L, 0-1) recorded the loss after tossing three innings for DSU.  He gave up nine runs on eight hits.  Garrett Mullins worked for three innings in relief, allowing four runs on six hits.

Zach Wilson (W, 5-1) earned the victory on the pitching mound for BU.  He pitched five innings and gave up one run on three hits.  Blake Phelps worked in the sixth inning and allowed two runs on one hit.  Caleb Rodriguez tossed a shutout seventh inning.
