ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Dakota State (S.D.) added another NAIA Outdoor Track & Field national qualifier Wednesday evening in the Red Raider Invitational.  The track & field meet was hosted by Northwestern (Iowa) College at DeValois Stadium, featuring schools from the Great Plains Athletic Conference, North Star Athletic Association conference and NCAA Division II schools.

Kylie Martin captured the women's hammer throw title for the second consecutive week with another DSU school record mark.  It was the third straight week that she broke the school record in women's hammer throw.  She tossed a measurement of 48.36 meters (158 feet, 8 inches) to claim the individual title, which is also a national qualifying mark.  Martin qualified for the NAIA Women's Outdoor Track & Field Nationals for the second consecutive year for the Trojans.

Jobi McCreary made her debut in the women's hammer throw, throwing 26.18 meters (85 feet, 11 inches).  She placed 25th in the event for the Trojans.

Tyler Lems, who was honored by the North Star conference as its Field Athlete-of-the-Week for the past two weeks, earned a runner-up honor in the men's javelin throw.  He threw a measurement of 52.52 meters (172 feet, 4 inches) for Dakota State.

A pair of Trojan men's freshman long-distance runners, who already qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track nationals in the full marathon, placed in the top eight in the 5000-meter run.  Braden Curnow clocked a personal-best time of 16 minutes, .16 seconds to earn a fourth-place finish for DSU.  Maxwell Cruse added a seventh-place finish with a personal record time of 16 minutes, 14.82 seconds.

Michael Carson ran a time of 17 minutes, 28.73 seconds to finish 13th in the men's 5000-meter run for the DSU.  Jonathan Lein followed up with a 14th-place finish with a time of 17 minutes, 31.51 seconds.

The Trojan men's 4 x 800-meter relay team – consisted of Cameron Harming, Alex Derr, Claudio Tejada and Mark Moeller – clocked a time of 7 minutes, 52.88 seconds to finish fourth overall.  Their time was just less than four seconds short of producing the national qualifying time for NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.

Dakota State continues their action with a full day of events on the second day of the Red Raider Invitational Thursday.  The first event is slated for 11 a.m. with the field events, followed by the running events at 1 p.m.  The track & field meet will be held at DeValois Stadium in Orange City.
