GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK

· The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan Baseball team (1-19 overall record, 1-11 North Star Athletic Association conference record) looks to snap their 10-game losing skid as they play their home opener this weekend.

· DSU hosts Winnipeg (Manitoba) (2-27 overall record, 0-12 NSAA record) in the North Star Athletic Association Baseball four-game series at Flynn Field (South Egan Ave) in Madison, S.D.

· The Trojans are playing their eight-game home stand, starting on Friday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.  Both DSU and UW will play another doubleheader on Saturday at 12 noon.

TROJANS KICK OFF 8-GAME HOME STAND

· Dakota State (S.D.) begins their eight-game home stand at Flynn Field this weekend with a four-game series versus Winnipeg (Manitoba). 

· The Trojans host Valley City State (N.D.) in another NSAA four-game series next weekend at Flynn Field (April 22-23).

· After a non-conference game at NCAA Division I South Dakota State on April 25, Dakota State concludes their regular-season schedule with a 4-game series versus Presentation (S.D.).

· DSU plays 12 of their last 13 regular-season games at Flynn Field.

NSAA CONFERENCE LEADER SWEEPS DSU

· Dakota State (S.D.) faced the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference's leader and nationally-ranked No. 5 Bellevue (Neb.) last weekend in Nebraska.

· The Bruins shut down the Trojans 10-0 in the first game on April 7.  There were no score in the first two innings of the game before BU scored its first run of the game in the bottom third inning.  Bellevue closed the game after plating four runs in the bottom eighth inning for the win.

· Connor Nagel was 2-of-4 at the plate with two singles for DSU.  Jalen Boyd, Smith Kemper, Juan Sermo and David Kirby each had a single.

· Bellevue scored at least a run in the first five innings to earn a 13-3 game two victory.

· Nagel had a single and drove in two runs for the Trojans.  Andrew Hesse added a single and an RBI.  Brad Frandsen and Kirby each had a hit.  Boyd reached on base by a walk two times.  Derek Hoefert, Kemper and Nagel each had a walk.

· DSU jumped to a 3-0 lead in the third game of the four-game series on April 8, highlighted by Hesse's 2-RBI double.

· BU then scored 17 straight runs and earned a 17-3 victory in seven innings.

· Hesse finished the game with a double and registered two RBIs for the Trojans.  Sermo added a single and an RBI.  Nagel had a triple.

· Bellevue won the four-game series finale with a 17-1 victory over Dakota State. 

· Nagel smashed a solo home run in the top sixth inning for the Trojans.  Kemper had a double.  Boyd, Garrett Mullins and Kirby each added a single.

· Nagel led the Trojans with a batting average of .417 during the four-game series against No. 5-ranked Bellevue (Neb.).  He had five hits, including a triple and a home run.  Nagel recorded a slugging percentage of .833.

· Kemper and Hesse each had a double for DSU in the series versus BU. 

LAST MEETING

· Dakota State (S.D.) and Winnipeg (Manitoba) played their first-ever meeting on March 14, 2014 in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational.

· The Trojans are 2-0 all-time record versus the Wesmen after sweeping a doubleheader that day.  DSU won a pair of slugfest games, winning the first game by the score of 11-8 followed by a 15-11 game two victory.

· Winnipeg joined the North Star conference as a provisional member in the sport of baseball.  Both teams will be playing their first-ever North Star conference meeting this weekend.

TROJANS IN HOME OPENER

· Dakota State (S.D.) is seeking for their first home opener victory since March 21, 2012, where the Trojans swept their long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) 6-5 and 6-3 at Flynn Field.

· The Trojans went 3-1 record in North Star's home opener last season on March 28-29 at Flynn Field.  DSU defeated Mayville State (N.D.) in a rare tripleheader sweep on March 28 by the scores of 5-2, 4-3 and 4-1.  The Comets won a nine-inning game on March 29 by the score of 18-6 in eight innings.
