MADISON, S.D. – Presentation (S.D.) took advantage of their fast start Friday afternoon in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Softball doubleheader sweep over Dakota State (S.D.).  The Saints jumped to a 9-0 lead in the first game and held off Trojans' late comeback for a 13-7 victory.  PC scored nine runs in the opening inning in the four-game series finale, earning an 11-0 five-inning win.

Dakota State fell to 14-27 overall record and 5-17 record in North Star conference games.  Presentation improved to 18-24 overall record and 8-12 NSAA record.  The Saints took three games in the four-game series with the Trojans.

DSU heads on the road Monday evening as they travel to Yankton, S.D. to take on in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.).  First game of the non-conference doubleheader is set for 5 p.m. at Riverside Park.

Game 1 – Presentation (S.D.) 13, Dakota State (S.D.) 7 – FINAL

With bases loaded and two outs situation for Presentation in the opening inning, Darrian Gibson hit a 2-RBI single to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.

PC continued their scoring surge with five runs scored in the top second frame.  The Saints had four consecutive singles by Krystle Schweers, Cortni Mendoza, Haylee Hemmert and Celia Cerezo and produced two runs.  Jaycee Herman added a 2-RBI single to extend PC's lead to 7-0.

Presentation added two runs in the top fourth inning as their lead grew to 9-0.

Dakota State snapped their scoring drought after plating four runs in the bottom fourth inning.  Emma Marsh led off with a walk.  She advanced to second after PC committed a wild pitch.  Kelly Drake hit a single to advance Marsh to third base.  Megan Zephier recorded an RBI ground out to score Marsh for DSU's first run of the game (PC leads 9-1).

Kailee McFadden hit a single and advanced Drake to third base.  Kayla Schmell drilled a 2-RBI triple to score Drake and McFadden as the Trojans reduced their deficit to 9-3.  Nicole Stewart followed up with an RBI single to score Schmell as DSU trailed 9-4.

DSU continued to make a furious comeback after scoring three more runs in the bottom fifth inning.  Tatum Ronke led off with a double.  She advanced to third after a wild pitch by the Saints.  Peyton Brokiewicz recorded an RBI ground out to score Ronke as Dakota State trimmed PC's lead to 9-5.

Marsh reached on base by a walk, followed by Drake's single to advance Marsh to second base in the top fifth for the Trojans.  Zephier added a single to set up a bases loaded situation with one out for DSU.  McFadden produced an RBI single to score Marsh as the Trojans' deficit narrowed down to three runs.

DSU cut Saints' lead to 9-7 after Schmell recorded an RBI walk to score Drake in the bottom fifth.

Kassandra Orozco and Gibson each hit RBI singles as Presentation's lead ballooned to 11-7 in the top sixth frame.  The Saints added two more runs in the top seventh inning and secured the victory.

Ronke was 3-of-4 at the plate with a double and two singles for Dakota State.  Schmell added a triple and drove in three runs.  McFadden had two singles.  Stewart and Zephier each had a hit and an RBI.  Jasmin Lucero, Marsh and Drake each tallied a single.  Marsh reached on base by a walk three times.

Orozco had three singles and four RBIs for Presentation.  Gibson added two hits and three RBIS.  Mendoza, Hemmert, Cerezo and Schweers each had two hits.  Herman tallied three singles and two RBIs.

PC outhit DSU 18-11 in the game.  The Trojans left 10 runners left on base while the Saints had 9 runners left on base.

Kaysea Luna recorded the loss in the pitching circle for DSU.  She worked for the first 1 1/3 innings and allowed six runs on five hits.  Drake tossed 5 2/3 innings in relief and gave up seven runs (three unearned) on 13 hits.

Megan Mendonca (W, 6-8) pitched a complete game win for PC.  She allowed seven runs on eleven hits.  She also gave up seven walks.

Game 2 – Presentation (S.D.) 11, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL

Presentation exploded for nine runs on ten hits in the first inning to earn a 9-0 lead over the Trojans in the four-game series finale.

Schweers hit an RBI single in the top second frame to extend PC's lead to 10-0.  Gibson added an RBI double in the third inning to make it 11-0 in favor of the Saints.

Dakota State left a runner on base in the bottom fifth inning as Presentation secured the victory in five innings.

Stewart was 2-of-2 at the plate for the Trojans.  Brokiewicz added a triple.  Ronke had a hit.

Gibson had two doubles and an RBI for the Saints.  Hemmert added a triple and drove in two runs.  Mendoza, Amber Ewert, Shanice Webb, Orozco, and Schweers each registered two hits.  Mendoza, Ewert, Orozco, Webb and Schweers each had an RBI.

Presentation recorded 14 hits in the game compared to Dakota State 4 hits.  The Saints left seven runners on base while the Trojans left two runners on base.

Luna (L, 5-12) started the game in the pitching circle for the Trojans.  She tossed for two outs and allowed nine runs on 10 hits.  Drake pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief, giving up two unearned runs on four hits.

Ewert (W, 2-4) recorded a complete game victory for the Saints.  She limited the Trojans to four hits.
