MEET NOTES (PDF) - SIOUX CITY RELAYS INFORMATION

This Week
Dakota State (S.D.) returns to Iowa for the third consecutive outdoor track & field meet this weekend.  The Trojans will be competing in the annual premier event of the 53rd Annual Sioux City Relays.  The two-day outdoor track & field meet begins on Friday and will be completed by Saturday afternoon at Olsen Stadium.

About Sioux City Relays
Schools around the Midwest region are expected to compete in the 53rd Annual running of the Sioux City Relays on Friday and Saturday.  The meet will be held at the Olsen Stadium in Sioux City (3201 Peters Ave.).  The first session kicks off on Friday at 12 noon with field events, followed by the running sessions which is set for 3:30 p.m.  The meet continues on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with collegiate field events and running events at 10 a.m.  For more information about the annual Sioux City Relays, go to http://www.screlays.com/.  There will be a live result from the Sioux City Relays on http://vptiming.com/screlays/

Martin becomes fifth Trojans to qualify for NAIA Nationals; earns NSAA weekly honor
Kylie Martin became the fifth member of the Dakota State (S.D.) track & field teams to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, which is held in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 25-27.  Martin won a pair of throwing titles at the Red Raiders Invitational on April 12-13 in Orange City, Iowa.  She won the women's hammer throw title for the second straight meet with another DSU school record mark.  It was the third straight meet that Martin improved her personal record and DSU school record in hammer throw, posting a measurement of 158 feet, 8 inches (48.36 meters).  Her hammer throw is currently 18th-best throw in the NAIA.  Martin also won the women's shot put title with a personal-best measurement of 41 feet, 3.25 inches (12.58 meters).  She also produced a personal record discus throw, finishing ninth with a measurement of 122 feet, 4 inches (37.30 meters).  From those results, Trojan Martin was honored by the North Star Athletic Association conference as its Women's Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week.

Moeller earns NSAA Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week for the second straight week
Mark Moeller of Dakota State (S.D.) was tabbed by the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) as its Track Athlete-of-the-Week, the fifth edition of the outdoor track & field weekly honor was announced by the conference office Tuesday.  It was the second straight week that Moeller received the weekly honor from the North Star conference.  He claimed the runner-up honor in the men's 800-meter run at the Red Raider Invitational on April 13, Moeller's second consecutive week that he was second in the race.  Moeller clocked a time of 1 minute, 56.36 seconds in the race, which was just less than three seconds short of producing a national qualifying time.  He also teamed up with Cameron Harming, Alex Derr and Claudio Tejada for a fourth-place finish in the men's 4 x 800-meter relay with a time of 7 minutes, 52.88 seconds.  The relay's time was just four seconds short of qualifying for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Nationals.

Two freshmen long-distance runners preparing for NAIA Nationals in full marathon
A pair of Trojans' freshmen long-distance runners—Braden Curnow and Maxwell Cruse—are preparing for the upcoming NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in full marathon.  Both Curnow and Cruse placed in the top eight in the men's 5000-meter run in the Red Raider Invitational in Orange City, Iowa on April 12.  Curnow clocked a personal-best time of 16 minutes, .16 seconds to earn a fourth-place finish for Dakota State (S.D.).  Cruse added a seventh-place finish with a personal-best time of 16 minutes, 14.82 seconds.

Personal records fall at Red Raider Invitational
More personal records were set at the Red Raider Invitational for Dakota State (S.D.).  Jobi McCreary posted her personal-best throw of 32.93 meters (108 feet) to place 12th overall in the women's discus throw for the Trojans.  Brandon Schmit also earned a pair of personal record throws, tossing 13.09 meters (42 feet, 11.50 inches) for sixth-place finish in the men's shot put and a ninth-place in the men's discus throw with a measurement of 39.45 meters (129 feet, 5 inches).  BreeAna Olson clocked a personal-best time of 26.88 seconds to finish sixth in the women's 200-meter dash for the Trojans.  Cameron Harming produced his personal record time of 4 minutes, 15.69 seconds to earn an 11th-place finish in the men's 1500-meter run for DSU.  Mercedes Jochims recorded a personal-best time of 6:13.78 in the women's 1500-meter run.

Updated NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Performances List
According to Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) on www.tfrrs.org as of Tuesday, Braden Curnow holds the 28th-best time in the men's half-marathon race (1 hour, 12 minutes and 32.39 seconds) for Dakota State (S.D.).  Maxwell Cruse is 31st overall (1 hour, 12 minutes, 36.38 seconds).  Both Curnow and Cruse will be running in the full marathon race on May 27.  Karen Mayfield will also run in the full marathon on May 27 as she is currently 44th-best in the half-marathon time of 1 hour, 31 minutes, 31.24 seconds for DSU.  Kylie Martin is currently 18th-best in the NAIA in the women's hammer throw for DSU (158 feet, 8 inches).  Tyler Lems holds the 21st-best discus throw for Dakota State, recording the national qualifying mark of 155 feet, 3 inches from the Mustang Open on March 31.

A Look Ahead
Dakota State (S.D.) awaits to hear if they will have any participants to the annual Drake Relays from April 27-29 in Des Moines, Iowa.  The majority of the Trojan track & field team heads to Yankton, S.D. for the Mount Marty (S.D.) Twilight meet on April 26.  The meet will be held at Williams Field (Yankton High School Track & Field).
