SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Dakota State (S.D.) had four events placed in 'Top 8' Saturday – including a pair of athletes that placed in the 'Top 3' – on the second day of the 53rd Annual Sioux City Relays.  Numerous competitors from middle school, high school and collegiate levels in the Midwest region competed at Olsen Stadium.

Tyler Lems marked a measurement of 51.81 meters (170 feet) to earn a runner-up honor in the men's javelin throw for the Trojans.  He was the second-best NAIA and top North Star thrower in the event.  Lems was also 26th in the men's discus throw after posting 35.16 meters toss (115 feet, 4 inches).

D'Artist Williams ran in the men's 100-meter dash Saturday morning for Dakota State.  He clocked a time of 11.01 seconds to earn a third-place honor in the race.

Kylie Martin placed eighth in the women's shot put with a measurement of 12.12 meters (39 feet, 9.25 inches) for DSU.  She was the top NAIA women's shot put in the event, including the top North Star shot put thrower.  Jobi McCreary made her debut in the shot put, recording 10.11 meters toss (33 feet, 2 inches) for a 29th-place finish.

A total of eight Trojan runners competed in the 1500-meter run.  Alex Derr led DSU men's with a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 11.63 seconds to place 16th overall in the race.  Cameron Hamring added a personal record time of 4:13.09 to finish 19th.

Caleb Hemphill registered a time of 11 minutes, 45.84 seconds to finish 17th in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase for the Trojans.

Mark Moeller posted a season-best time of 4 minutes, 18.30 seconds to place 28th in the men's 1500-meter run for Dakota State.  Corey Hermann posted his personal best time of 4:27.32 for a 36th-place finish.  Hemphill was 42nd with a time of 4:37.60, followed by Jonathan Lein with a 46th-place finish in 4:42.58.

On the women's side, Victoria Sopko recorded a time of 5:43.08 for a 50th-place finish for DSU.  Mercedes Jochims clocked a personal record time of 6:09.11 to finish 55th overall.

DSU men's 4 x 400-meter relay team – consisted of Harming, Williams, Derr and Moeller – recorded a time of 3 minutes, 26.33 seconds to place eighth.

Dakota State heads to Yankton, S.D. Wednesday for the Mount Marty (S.D.) Twilight meet.  The outdoor track & field meet will be held at Williams Field on the campus of Yankton High School.
