SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) added another NAIA Outdoor Track National qualifier Friday on the first day of the 92nd Annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays at Howard Wood Field. Numerous athletes from all levels competed in the two-day events. DSU had set numerous personal records in the meet.
Mark Moeller clocked a national qualifying time of 1 minute, 52.47 seconds to place sixth overall in the men's 800-meter run for the Trojans. He was just .17 seconds off from joining the Top 5 times in the DSU men's outdoor school record history (John Ecklein with a time of 1:52.31 – 5th fastest time set in 2000). It was also Moeller's personal best time in the 800-meter run.
Cameron Harming also recorded a personal-best time of 1 minute, 58.10 seconds to place 17th overall for DSU. Corey Hermann had a personal-record time of 2:00.31 for 22nd place finish, followed by Alex Derr was 23rd with a time of 2:00.93.
D'Artist Williams clocked a time of 22.20 seconds to finish fifth in the men's 200-meter dash for Dakota State. Bailey Ludens recorded a time of 23.19 seconds for a 15th-place finish. Kennan Kelly placed 22nd in 24.17 seconds, followed by Austin Row 24th in 25.37 seconds.
Williams was 12th in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 50.45 seconds for DSU.
Breanna Adsit was 20th in the women's 200-meter dash for the Trojans with a time of 28.86 seconds.
Kylie Martin tossed a hammer throw distance of 47.89 meters (157 feet, 1 inch) to earn a fifth-place finish for DSU. Jobi McCreary improved her personal best measurement of 32.68 meters (107 feet, 3 inches) to place 14th overall.
Martin also added a fifth-place finish in the women's shot put for Dakota State. She threw 12.37 meters (40 feet, 7 inches). McCreary earned her personal best mark of 10.27 meters (33 feet, 8.5 inches) to finish 11th.
Brandon Schmit threw a distance of 35.41 meters (116 feet, 2 inches) to place 12th overall in the men's discus for DSU. Evan McCreary added a 14th-place finish with a time of 30.55 meters (100 feet, 3 inches).
Austin Opdahl cleared a high jump measurement of 1.86 meters (6 feet, 1.25 inches) to finish 11th for the Trojans.
The night concluded with the 5000-meter run. Braden Curnow led the Trojans with a personal-best time of 15 minutes, 51.62 seconds. Maxwell Cruse also added a personal-record time of 16:09.69 to finish 11th in the race. Michael Carson was 19th in 17:56.31, followed by Jonathan Lein 20th in 18:10.85.
Dakota State continues their action Saturday on the second day of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls.
