This Week
Dakota State (S.D.) travels to Jamestown, N.D. for the two-day North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  The meet kicks off on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. and concludes the championship meet with a full day of events on Friday starting at 10 a.m.  The North Star Outdoor Track & Field conference meet is hosted by the University of Jamestown (N.D.) and will be held at the Al Cassell Field.

About North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Outdoor Track & Field Meet
Jamestown's (N.D.) Al Cassell Field will take center stage when the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships meet take place.  The two-day meet begins on Thursday at 3 p.m. with the triple jump, hammer throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 10,000-meter run.  Action resumes on Friday with all the remaining events, starting at 10 a.m. with the long jump, high jump and discus throw.  The meet will feature men's and women's teams from Dakota State (S.D.), Dickinson State (N.D.), Jamestown (N.D.), Valley City State (N.D.), Viterbo (Wis.) and Waldorf (Iowa).  The top three performers in individual events at the North Star Championship, as well as the top two in relay events, will be recognized as All-Conference at the meet.  The team champions in each division (men's and women's) will receive the North Star's trophy.  Jamestown will be providing the live results of the two-day meet, follow the live results on http://raceberryjam.com/2017/nsaamenentries.html

Moeller honored by North Star for the third time; became 6th Trojan to qualify for NAIA
The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) has tabbed Dakota State's (S.D.) Mark Moeller as its Men's Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week.  It was the third time this outdoor season that Moeller was honored by the North Star conference (April 11 and April 18).  He clocked a national qualifying time of 1 minute, 52.47 seconds in a competitive men's 800-meter run at the 92nd Annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays on May 5 in Sioux Falls, S.D.  He placed sixth overall in the race, featuring runners from NCAA Division I, II and NAIA.  Moeller, a three-time NAIA All-American runner at Dakota State, became the sixth Trojan member to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  He was just .17 seconds off from joining the 'Top 5' best times in the DSU men's outdoor track & field school record list.  It was also his personal-record time and currently ranks the 15th-best time in the NAIA.

Personal records fall on first day of 92nd Annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays
Dakota State (S.D.) had set numerous personal records on the first day of the 92nd Annual running of Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D. on May 5.  Three Trojan men's runners set personal-best times in the 800-meter run, led by Mark Moeller with a national qualifying time of 1 minute, 52.47 seconds (6th-place finish in the race).  Cameron Harming also recorded his personal record time of 1:58.10 to finish 17th overall, followed by Corey Herman's personal-best time of 2:00.31 for 22nd-place finish.  Jobi McCreary improved her personal best mark in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 32.68 meters (107 feet, 3 inches) to place 14th.  She also added her personal record of 10.27 meters (33 feet, 8.5 inches) in the shot put for the Trojans.  Taylor Hauge clocked a personal record time of 10 minutes, 59.29 seconds to earn a 12th-place finish in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase.  Both freshmen Braden Curnow and Maxwell Cruse posted personal best times in the men's 5000-meter run.  Curnow recoded a time of 15 minutes, 51.62 seconds, while Cruse clocked a time of 16:09.69.

Williams place third in the men's 100-meter dash on second day of Dakota Relays
D'Artist Williams highlighted the day for Dakota State (S.D.) on the second day of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls on May 6.  He raced to a third-place finish in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.17 seconds.  Bailey Ludens added a 13th-place finish in 11.61 seconds.  Megan Schrempp was 15th in the women's division with a time of 13.58 seconds.  Cameron Harming posted a personal-beset time of 4 minutes, 3.08 seconds to place 11th in the men's 1500-meter run for the Trojans.  Alex Derr added a personal record time of 4:08.93, while Taylor Hauge clocked his season-best time of 4:29.60 in the race.  Tyra Laws registered her season-best time of 6:04.10 in the women's 1500-meter run for DSU.

Trojan Seniors
Dakota State (S.D.) track and field teams have nine seniors on this year's team.  Thursday and Friday would be the final collegiate career track & field meet for their chances to produce national qualifying times or marks.  They are Michael Carson, Taylor Hauge, Caleb Hemphill, BreeAna Olson, Kylie Martin, Mark Moeller, Victoria Sopko, Claudio Tejada and D'Artist Williams.  Martin and Moeller had already secured a spot to compete in the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, which is held on May 25-27 in Gulf Shores, Ala. 

Highlights from last year's North Star Outdoor Track & Field Championships
A total of 12 Trojans received All-Conference honors from last year's North Star conference outdoor track & field championships in Forest City, Iowa.  Austin Opdahl claimed the men's high jump with the North Star conference record of 1.99 meters (6 feet, 6.25 inches) for Dakota State (S.D.)  Claudio Tejada received runner-up honor in the men's 1500-meter run (4:14.35), as well as third-place finish in the 5000-meter run.  BreeAna Olson was second in the women's 200-meter dash in 26.90 seconds.  Karen Mayfield earned runner-up honor in the women's 10,000-meter run (41:45.02) and third place in the 5000-meter run (19:50.53) for the Trojans.  Kylie Martin claimed the runner-up honor in the hammer throw (155 feet, 1 inch) and third place in the discus throw (116 feet, 11 inches).  Michael Carson finished third in the men's 10,000-meter un at the conference meet in 35 minutes, 4.16 seconds.

A Look Ahead
Dakota State (S.D.) heads to Gulf Shores, Ala. to compete in the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships meet.  The three-day meet kicks off on Thursday, May 25 and runs through Saturday, May 28.  The Trojans currently have six athletes secured a spot at the national meet.
