JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) tallied a total of 23 points for a sixth-place finish in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Track & Field Conference meet. The second day of the conference meet was held at Al Cassell Field on Friday, hosted by the University of Jamestown (N.D.).
Dickinson State (N.D.) cruised to the team conference title with a total of 241 points. Jamestown (N.D.) was second with 192 points, followed by Viterbo (Wis.) third with 96 points. Valley City State (N.D.) was fourth with 71 points, while Waldorf (Iowa) finished fifth with 42 points.
Kylie Martin threw a personal-best distance of 37.80 meters (124 feet) to place fourth in the women's discus for DSU. Jobi McCreary added a seventh-place finish with a distance of 31.45 meters (103 feet, 2 inches).
Martin was also fourth in the women's shot put for Dakota State. She tossed a measurement of 12.32 meters (40 feet, 5 inches). McCreary was sixth with a personal record mark of 11.02 meters (36 feet, 2 inches).
BreeAna Olson improved her time in the women's 100-meter dash Friday afternoon. She clocked a time of 13.02 seconds in the finals for a sixth-place finish for the Trojans. Olson improved her time from the prelims round with a time of 13.19 seconds.
Olson produced her personal best time in the 200-meter dash for the Trojans. She clocked a time of 26.88 seconds to earn a seventh-place finish in the race. Breeana Adsit was 11th with a time of 29.15 seconds.
DSU's Mercedes Jochims registered a time of 6 minutes, 29.44 seconds to finish ninth in the women's 1500-meter run.
The conference meet ended with the 4 x 400-meter relay where the Trojans placed fourth with the time of 4 minutes, 30.69 seconds. The DSU women's 4 x 400-meter relay team included Megan Schrempp, Olson, Adsit and Laws.
It was the final career collegiate outdoor track & field meet for two seniors – Olson and Sopko.
Dakota State will be sending Kylie Martin (senior) and Karen Mayfield to the NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. Martin will be throwing the hammer throw at the national meet while Mayfield will be running in the women's full marathon. The NAIA national outdoor meet will be held in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 25-27.
