DSU TROJAN SOFTBALL RECORD BOOK

MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) had numerous records listed in the 'Top 10' Trojan Softball record book.  The Trojans set two new school records from this past spring season.  Six DSU individuals are listed in the 'Top 10' record book.

Kelly Drake broke the single-game Trojan Softball school record for most innings pitched.  She tossed 10 innings versus Mount Marty (S.D.) on April 24 at Thue Softball Complex.  The previous record was held 15 years ago by Jeny Garst after pitching nine innings versus Central Methodist (Mo.) on March 14, 2002.

DSU also set a new team record for most innings pitched in a single-game (10 innings versus Mount Marty on April 24, breaking the previous old record of 9 innings versus Central Methodist, Mo. on March 14, 2002).

Drake is third in single-season record for most innings pitched for the Trojans.  She worked for a total of 179 2/3 innings in 2017.  Stephanie Brakel holds the school record with 222 1/3 innings pitched in a single-season set in 2006. 

Drake recorded the ninth most pitching victories in the Trojan Softball single season record book with eight (8) in 2017.

Four Trojans are listed in the 'Top 10' for most at-bats in a single season.  Jasmin Lucero tied for the second-most at-bats with 156, while Nicole Stewart is fifth in the list with 154 at-bats.  Peyton Brokiewicz and Kayla Schmell are tied for seventh most at-bats in a single season with 151 at-bats.

Stewart tied for second most home runs in Trojan Softball single-season record with eight (8) home runs (Garst in 2004).  She is currently seventh on list for career home runs. 

Tatum Ronke and Lucero also tied for fifth most home runs in a single season with five (5) home runs for Dakota State.

Dakota State tied the team's school record for most home runs in a single game with three home runs at Viterbo (Wis.) on March 26.  The most recent game that the Trojans hit three home runs in a single game was on April 3, 2016 at Jamestown (N.D.).

Stewart is third in the DSU Trojan Softball record book for the most total bases.  She registered a total of 97 total bases in 2017.  Brokiewicz and Ronke both tied for tenth most single-season total bases with 83.

Stewart accumulated a total of 58 hits in 2017, which is tied for fifth most hits in a single season in Trojan Softball school record book (Sara Kloetzer in 2004).  Brokiewicz tied for seventh most single-season hits with 57 (Emily Pyle in 2008).

DSU's Stewart collected 15 doubles during the 2017 season, tying for the fourth-most doubles in a single season with Kloetzer in 2004.  Brokiewicz had 14 doubles last spring which is tied for sixth most doubles in a season (Nicole Hedrick in 2004). 

Lucero drove in a total of 35 runs in 2017 for the Trojans.  Her 35 RBIs tied for fifth-most in the Trojan Softball single-season record book with two former athletes (Brittany Hill in 2014 and Shannon Murphy in 2003).  Stewart tied for the ninth-most RBIs in a season with 32 (Pyle in 2008, Allison Hubers in 2006, Kloetzer in 2004 and Allie Gilbert in 2006).

Brokiewicz is currently tied for ninth-most career triples with six triples (Leigh Gramke in 2009 and Laura Beers in 2003).

Stewart posted a slugging percentage of .630 in 2017, placing her tenth in the Trojan Softball record book for best single-season slugging percentage. 

Ronke scored a total of 33 runs last spring, which is tenth most runs scored in a single season for the Trojans.

Dakota State is second in the following team records set in 2017 (school record in parenthesis):  304.0 innings pitched (307.0 innings pitched in 2003); 912 putouts (921 putouts in 2003), 1,309 at-bats (1,331 at-bats in 2003); 560 total bases (577 total bases in 2004) and 78 doubles (97 doubles in 2004).  The Trojans tied for the second-most home runs in a single season with 24 home runs (DSU had 24 home runs in 2004; school record is 28 home runs in 2008).

As a team, DSU is third in total hits in a single-season with 394 hits in 2017 (school record – 404 hits in 2003).  The Trojans are fifth in the school record book in best batting average of .301.

Dakota State finished the 2017 campaign with 14 victories, their most victories since the 2012-13 season where the Trojans had 15 wins.
