McCOOK LAKE, S.D. - After having a week off, the Dakota State University cross country team returned back to action in the Briar Cliff Invitational Saturday. The meet was held at the Adams Nature Preserve. There was 12 teams competing in the men's and women's races.
For the second time this season, the Trojan men's runners captured the team title. DSU recorded 46 points, beating out No. 16 in the nation, Doane College with 65 points. A total of 143 runners competed in the men's race.
DSU runners placed first, second and third. Anthony Drealan captured the individual title in 25 minutes and 21.18 seconds. Devon Berkness came in second with a time of 25:37.05. Tyler Van Peursem placed third in 25:49.24
Matt Fideler was the fourth Trojan runner to place in the top 10. He finished 10th in 26:13.45.
Other Trojan finishers were: Andrew Manning, 31st, 27:10.65; Ben Harrison, 53rd, 27:49.57; Michael Hoffman, 61st, 28:10.11; John Bintliff, 62nd, 28:12.80; Bryan Wolfe, 74th, 28:48.23; Cody Foreman, 76th, 28:49.09; Kyle Sanderson, 93rd, 29:30.80; Keith Huffman, 103rd, 29:52.88 and Ethan Shafer, 138th, 32:44.24.
The Trojan women's cross country team placed third in the meet with 88 points, one point behind second place Doane (87 points). Morningside College captured the team title with 40 points. A total of 136 runners participated in the event.
Stephanie Warnke placed sixth with a time of 18:51.72. Samantha Warnke finished 12th in 19:03.25. Brittany Young placed 15th in 19:10.25. Clarice Bauer came in 21st with a time of 19:21.28. Suzanne Swett finished 39th in 19:49.86.
Dakota State cross country team will have their last regular meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 24th at the Mount Marty Invitational.
