Dakota State (S.D.) kicks off their 2017 campaign, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Anthony Drealan, Friday evening as they run in the seventh annual Augustana (S.D.) Twilight meet.  The women's collegiate race is slated to start at 8:30 p.m. with the men's race to follow at approximately 9 p.m.

About Augustana (S.D.) Twilight Meet
NCAA Division II Augustana (S.D.) is the host for this unique prime-time meet by sunset, running 'under the lights' at Yankton Trail Park (3901 S Minnesota Ave.) in Sioux Falls, S.D.  Numerous high school and collegiate runners from the Midwest region will be at the cross country meet.  This Friday's meet will see over 30 collegiate programs, including the likes of NCAA Division I Nebraska. The race will also include over 40 high school cross country programs running prior to the collegiate race.  The women's race is set to run 5000-meters, while the men's race is scheduled to run for four miles.  There will be lights, music and food trucks at this cross country meet.  For more information about the Augustana Twilight meet, visit

2016 Season in Review—Two Trojans received All-Conference honor
Two Dakota State (S.D.) runners earned North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Cross Country All-Conference honor last season in Dickinson, N.D.  Five DSU men's runners placed in the Top 25 in the North Star conference meet, where they totaled a low score of 80 points for a third-place finish.  The Trojans were led by Braden Curnow with a 7th-place finish in 26 minutes, 49 seconds.  He was just one place short of qualifying for the NAIA nationals.  On the women's side, Dakota State scored 110 points in the North Star conference meet and finished fourth overall.  Karen Mayfield earned her second straight North Star Women's Cross Country All-Conference honor after placing tenth with a time of 20 minutes, 47 seconds. 

North Star Women's and Men's Cross Country Coaches' Preseason Polls
Dickinson State (N.D.) is the favorite to win both women's and men's North Star Cross Country league titles.  In the women's poll, the Blue Hawks received five first-place votes and 35 points to earn first-place.  Jamestown (N.D.) was second with a first-place vote and 31 points, followed by Viterbo (Wis.) third with 19 points.  Dakota State (S.D.) was fourth with 16 points.  Valley City State (N.D.) edged Waldorf (Iowa) 13-12 for fifth-place.  The Trojan men's team was picked to finish second in the North Star conference coaches' preseason poll.  Dickinson State collected four first-place votes with 33 points to finish second in the men's poll, while Dakota State was second with 26 points.  Waldorf finished third with a first-place vote and 25 points, followed by Jamestown fourth with 17 points and Valley City State fifth with 14 points.  Viterbo was predicted to finish last with 8 points.  The North Star Cross Country Championships are scheduled to take place in Jamestown, N.D. on Friday, Nov. 3.  The winner of each division will receive the North Star's automatic bid to the NAIA Cross Country National Championships, where it scheduled to be held in Vancouver, Wash. on Nov. 18.

2017 DSU Trojan Cross Country Schedule Overview
Dakota State (S.D.) is slated to run in five regular-season meets before competing in the postseason conference meet this fall.  DSU opens up their season on Friday evening in Sioux Falls, S.D.  The Trojans return home on Saturday, Sept. 9 as they host the annual Herb Blakely Invitational at the Madison Country Club.  After taking a week off, Dakota State is scheduled to run in the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by NCAA Division I Minnesota in Falcon Heights, Minn. on Sept. 24.  DSU travels to McCook Lake, S.D. on Oct. 7 for the Briar Cliff (Iowa) Invitational.  The Trojans conclude their regular-season schedule with a cross country meet in Yankton, S.D., the Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational on Oct. 21.  The North Star conference meet is set for Nov. 3 in Jamestown, N.D.  The NAIA Cross Country National Championship meets are scheduled for Nov. 18 in Vancouver, Wash.

2017 Dakota State Cross Country Roster Breakdown
There are a total of 10 women's and 12 men's runners on this year's Dakota State (S.D.) cross country teams.  Mercedes Jochims is the lone senior for the Trojans.  Justine Compton is a junior for Dakota State.  A total of nine sophomores are listed on this year's team.  They are Maxwell Cruse, Braden Curnow, Alex Derr, Cameron Harming, Corey Hermann, Jonathan Lein, Mitchell Peters, Ashley Robinson and Madison Whitcomb.  There are 11 new freshmen runners on the DSU cross country team.  They are Mallory Aughenbaugh, Andrea Bryant, Jacia Christiansen, Andrew Cottier (redshirt), Mattheu Cox, Matthew Dunn, Christianna Green (redshirt), Marlowe LaRoche, Nickolas Listrom (redshirt), Kirsten Paetow and Lyndsay PrussAnthony Drealan is in his fifth season as the Trojan Cross Country Head Coach, assisted by Cody Foreman (4th season) and student assistant coach Taylor HaugeAlex Horstman is in his third season as the student manager.

A Look Ahead
Dakota State (S.D.) returns home as they host the annual Herb Blakely Invitational in Madison.  The women's 5K race kicks off at 10:30 a.m., with the men's to follow at 11:15 a.m.
