This Week
The Dakota State University (S.D.) cross country teams continue their action Saturday morning as they host the lone meet of the season, the 15th Annual Herb Blakely Invitational.  The women's 5K race begins at 10:30 a.m. with the men's 8K race to follow at approximately 11:15 a.m.  The cross country meet will be held at he Madison Country Club, located in west side of Madison on highways US 81 and SD 34.

About Herb Blakely Invitational
As of Thursday, five schools as high as NCAA Division II and a total of 70 runners are expected to compete at the 15th Annual Herb Blakely Invitational.  Herb Blakely was a former long-time Trojan cross country/track & field head coach.  Teams expected to compete in the DSU's home cross country meet on Saturday include host-team Dakota State, College of Saint Mary (Neb.), Trinity Bible (N.D.) and a pair of NCAA Division II schools Northern State (S.D.) and Southwest Minnesota State.

2016 Herb Blakely Invitational Recap—Women's Race
The 14th Annual Herb Blakely Invitational was held on Sept. 10, 2016 at the Madison Country Club.  A total of 79 runners completed the women's 5K race, where NCAA Division II Northern State (S.D.) won the team title with a low score of 28 points.  Morningside (Iowa) was second with 46 points.  Dakotah Bullen of NSU won the individual title for the second straight year with a time of 18 minutes, 13 seconds (4th fastest time in the history of Herb Blakely cross country meet).  Karen Mayfield led the Trojans with a 24th-place finish in 21 minutes, 13 seconds.  Ashley Robinson was 47th with a time of 22 minutes, 36 seconds. 

2016 Herb Blakely Invitational Recap—Men's Race
Dakota State (S.D) had three runners placed in the Top 30, including a runner in the Top 10, on Sept. 10, 2016 in the 14th Annual Herb Blakely Invitational.  The Trojans finished 5th overall as a team with 113 points.  A total of 79 runner completed the men's 8K race.  Morningside (Iowa) cruised to the team title with 28 points.  Lucas Keifer of Hastings (Neb.) won the individual title with a time of 26 minutes, 32 seconds.  Braden Curnow was the top freshman runner in the race for the Trojans, recording a time of 27 minutes, 38 seconds.  Alex Derr was 27th in 29 minutes.  Cameron Harming recorded a time of 29:42 for a 41st place finish, followed by Maxwell Cruse with a 42nd-place finish in 29:45.  Jonathan Lein placed 52nd (30:47).  Corey Hermann was 58th in 31:27.

Six DSU women's runners make collegiate debut at Augustana (S.D.) Twilight meet
The Dakota State (S.D.) University women's cross country team began their 2017 campaign on Sept. 1, running 'Under the Lights' in the Augustana (S.D.) Twilight meet.  The meet featured a total of 310 runners from all collegiate levels in the women's 5K race.  The Trojans placed 26th overall in the women's division and was the top North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) place-finisher in the meet (Waldorf was 29th).  Six different DSU women's runners made their collegiate debut in the meet.  Christianna Green, who ran as an unattached runner, finished 160th overall with a time of 20 minutes, 52.70 seconds.  Jacia Christiansen was 170th with a time of 20:58.65.  Kirsten Paetow clocked a time o 22:12.51 seconds (237th), followed by Andrea Bryant with a time of 22:18.89 (241st).  Sophomore Ashley Robinson recorded a time of 22:29.17 (247th).  Mallory Aughenbaugh completed the race with a time of 22:37.35 (238th).

Trojan men's team place 23rd in packed Augustana (S.D.) Twilight meet
A total of 280 men's runners from 26 different teams ran in the 7th Annual Augustana (S.D.) Twilight meet on Sept. 1 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.  Dakota State (S.D.) placed 23rd overall in the men's division, which runners ran for a total of four miles.  Braden Curnow led the Trojans with a 117th-place finish in 21 minutes, 29.13 seconds.  Cameron Harming added a 171st place finish with a time of 22 minutes, 19.09 seconds.  Matthew Dunn made his collegiate debut after registering a time of 22 minutes, 40.25 seconds.  Three DSU unattached runners made their first collegiate cross country meet.  Marlowe LaRoche placed 226th in 23:45.47, followed by Nickolas Listrom with a 238th place finish in 24:15.77.  Mattheu Cox recorded a time of 24:40.09 to place 249th overall.  Jonathan Lein ran a time of 24 minutes, 47.98 seconds to place 253rd.

Dakota State (S.D.) cross country teams to hold Parents Night on Sept. 16
The Dakota State (S.D.) women's and men's cross country teams will hold their Parents Night on Saturday, Sept. 16 in conjunction with the Trojan Football game versus Mayville State (N.D.).  Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Trojan Field.  There will be tailgate area prior to the football game on the east side of the Trojan Football's parking lot.

A Look Ahead
Dakota State (S.D.) will take a week off before returning back to action after the Herb Blakely Invitational.  The Trojans travel to Falcon Heights, Minn. on Saturday, Sept. 23 as they run in the one of the premier races in the Midwest region, the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by NCAA Division I University of Minnesota.
