OMAHA, Neb. – Dakota State (S.D.) kicked off their final preseason tournament tune-up Friday afternoon versus McPherson (Kan.) in the College of Saint Mary (Neb.)/Grace (Neb.) volleyball tournament.  The Bulldogs swept the Trojans in three straight sets by the score of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-21 at Jim Classen Gymnasium on the campus of Grace University.

Dakota State fell to 1-8 overall record.  McPherson, a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), improved to 3-2 overall record.

The Bulldogs earned a 14-9 lead in the opening set.  The Trojans answered with a 6-1 scoring run to tie at 15-15.  With MC leading 23-22, the Bulldogs closed out the first set by scoring the final two points for a 25-22 victory and 1-0 match lead.  McPherson hit .312 (17 kills with 7 errors in 32 attempts) compared to Dakota State .250 hitting percentage.

DSU raced to a 5-0 lead in the second set and extended their lead to 9-2.  McPherson rallied back with a 9-2 to knot the second set by the score of 11-11.  The Bulldogs closed the second set with a 14-10 run for a 25-21 victory, earning a 2-0 match lead.  MC outhit DSU 13-8 in the second set.

MC scored the first four points of the third set for a 4-0 set lead and widen their lead to 7-1.  DSU answered back with a 9-3 scoring run to tie at 10-10.  At 15-15, the Bulldogs closed out with a 10-6 run to secure the match after a 25-21 victory.  McPherson hit .231 in the third set compared to Dakota State .097.

Jazmayne Williams led the Trojans with eight kills and hit .286 in the match.  Kaylee Sprier and Maddie Polzin each added seven kills.  Kendra Steffen produced 14 set assists.  Rachel Johnson had 11 assists. 

Mallory Testerman collected 10 digs for DSU.  Johnson and Testerman each had a service ace.  Carly Rozell and Williams each registered four block assists.  Samantha Zell had three block assists.

Lexi Kite smashed 14 kills for McPherson.  Bree Wallace added eight kills.  Morgan Little contributed 21 set assists, while Kaitlyn Heinis added 16 assists.  Jamie Siess had 13 digs.

McPherson hit .234 in the match (42 kills with 20 errors in 94 attempts) compared to Dakota State .101 hitting percentage (31 kills with 21 errors in 99 attempts).  The Trojans had eight blocks while the Bulldogs had six blocks.

Dakota State plays the second match of the tournament Friday evening versus Briar Cliff (Iowa).  First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Jim Classen Gymnasium.
