OMAHA, Neb. – Dakota State (S.D.) concluded their preseason tournament – College of Saint Mary (Neb.)/Grace (Neb.) – Saturday at Lied Fitness Center on the campus of College of Saint Mary.  The Trojans fell to the host-team Flames in three straight sets, but finished the day with a split with a three-set sweep over William Penn (Iowa).

Dakota State improved to 2-10 overall record.  CSM was 6-3 overall record after the victory, while William Penn fell to 4-9 overall record.

The Trojans play their first home match of the season Tuesday evening.  DSU hosts long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) at the DSU Fieldhouse.  There will be a junior varsity match at 6 p.m., followed by a varsity match at 7:30 p.m.

College of Saint Mary (Neb.) 3, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL

The Trojans opened up the day with a 3-0 defeat to the host-team College of Saint Mary.  The Flames won by the score of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-21.

Jazmayne Williams led the Trojans with nine kills and hit .438 in the match.  Maddie Polzin had smashed eight kills.  Carly Rozell recorded seven kills.  Samantha Zell added six kills.  Rachel Johnson registered 18 set assists.  Kendra Steffen had nine assists.

Rozell led DSU's defense with 10 digs and three block assists.  Mallory Testerman and Williams each collected eight digs. 

Dani Carlson had a double-double of 14 kills and 17 assists for the Flames.  She also had three service aces.  MacKenzie Melton and Payton Robley each had six kills.  Natalie Patten had 16 assists.  Robley recorded 17 digs, while Emily Pongratz had 12 digs.

CSM outhit DSU 42-33 in the match.  The Flames hit .250 (14 errors in 112 attempts) compared to the Trojans .147 hitting efficiency (18 errors in 102 attempts).  College of Saint Mary had seven aces while Dakota State had one ace.

Dakota State (S.D.) 3, William Penn (Iowa) 0 – FINAL

The Trojans earned their second victory of the season after sweeping William Penn in three straight sets.  DSU won by the scores of 26-24, 25-20 and 25-10.

The first set was a see-saw battle by both DSU and WPU, with the lead no more than three points held by the Trojans.  Tied at 24-24, the Trojans secured the first set by the score of 26-24 after a kill by Kaylee Spreier and a block assist by both Spreier and Williams.

DSU outhit WPU 17-11 in the second set, earning a 25-20 victory.  The Trojans extended their match lead to 2-0.

Dakota State dominated the third set by hitting an impressive .429 (14 kills with 2 errors in 28 attempts), cruising to a 25-10 win.  William Penn was held to .081 in the third set (8 kills with 5 errors in 37 attempts).

Williams led the Trojans' offense attack with a season-high 16 kills and hit .483 in the match.  Rozell added 10 kills and 4 service aces.  Sprier recorded nine kills.

Steffen registered a season-high 26 assists for DSU.  Johnson added 11 assists. 

Testerman registered 10 digs in the match for Dakota State.  Alwaise Villa had eight digs.

Spreier collected six block assists for the Trojans.  Rozell and Williams each added three block assists.

Nashali Cruz hit .714 in the match with 10 kills for the Statemen.  Jordan Carter, Claire Simmons and Alicia Jaquez each added five kills.  Haley Smith had 30 assists and 9 digs.  Simmons recorded three block assists.

Dakota State hit a season-best .307 in the match.  The Trojans had 44 kills with 13 errors in 101 attempts compared to Statemen .125 hitting efficiency (32 kills with 19 errors in 104 attempts).  DSU had seven blocks while WPU had 5 blocks.

DSU recorded seven service aces.  WPU had four aces.
