NSAA PRESS RELEASE

MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) have two athletes being honored by the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association Football conference for the third consecutive week.  Dereck DeVries was chosen to the Defensive Player-of-the-Week, while Brywn Ractliffe was selected as Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.  The third edition of the conference's football player-of-the-week was announced by the conference office Monday.

DeVries, 6-foot-2 and 205 lbs. defensive back, tallied eight tackles (4 solo, 4 assists) as well as two interceptions in Trojans' 49-33 road victory at Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Sept. 9.  He had an interception in the first quarter.  DeVries earned his second interception of the game in the BCU's end zone and returned it for 68 yards with no time left in the first-half.  He also forced a fumble in the game.

According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, DSU's DeVries ranks second in the nation in total interceptions with two.  He also ranks 17th in interceptions per game (0.7) and 36th in tackles per game (9.0 tackles per game).

DeVries registered a total of 27 tackles this season for the Trojans.  He also had a fumble recovery and returned it for 26 yards.  He had a total of seven career interceptions at DSU.

Dereck is the son of Dan and Jill DeVries of Lennox, S.D.  He is a senior Accounting major at Dakota State University.

Ractliffe, 5-foot-10 and 190 lbs. kicker, earned the conference's Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for the second time this season.  He was perfect 7-of-7 PAT extra-point kicks in Trojans' 49-33 victory at Briar Cliff.

Ractliffe had made all 18 PAT extra-point kicks this season for Dakota State, including tying a single-game school record of eight PAT extra-point kicks in DSU's 56-39 home victory over No. 17-ranked Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Aug. 24. 

Ractliffe leads the NAIA in PAT kicking percentage (100.0 percent) for the Trojans.  He also ranks 14th in total scoring (kicking) with 18 points and 25th in scoring (kicking) per game with an average of 6.0 points.

Brywn is the son of Jon and Tam Ractliffe of Canton, S.D.  He is a junior majoring in General Studies at Dakota State University.

Dakota State (2-1 overall record) returns home Saturday evening as they open up the North Star conference season.  The Trojans host Mayville State (N.D.) at the Trojan Field.  Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. as part of Parents' Night and Rosebud Wood Products Appreciation Night.
