FOREST CITY, Iowa – Dakota State (S.D.) took advantage of Waldorf's (Iowa) 28 attack errors Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 3-0 North Star Athletic Association volleyball contest at Hanson Fieldhouse.  The Trojans swept the Warriors by the scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-17.

Dakota State snapped their five-match losing skid to improve their overall record to 5-18.  After all the North Star conference matches this weekend, the Trojans moved into a two-way tie for fifth-place (3-5 conference record) in the North Star standings with Presentation (S.D.).  Waldorf fell to 4-16 overall record and 1-7 North Star conference record.


Knotted at 5-5, Dakota State went on a 14-5 scoring outburst to gain a 19-10 commanding lead.  The Trojans never looked back as they cruised to a 1-0 match lead after recording a 25-16 set one victory.  DSU hit an impressive .324 hitting percentage (15 kills with 3 errors in 37 attempts) while holding WU to .056 hitting efficiency (11 kills with 9 errors in 36 attempts).


The Trojans used a fast start to open up the second set, scoring five consecutive points for a 5-0 lead.  Waldorf committed 12 attack errors in the second set, as Dakota State dominated the second set with a 25-12 victory to extend their match lead to 2-0.  The Trojans recorded a hitting efficiency of .176 (7 kills with 4 errors in 17 swings) while the Warriors hit a negative .214 hitting percentage (6 kills with 12 errors in 28 attempts).


Dakota State controlled the third set and sealed the match victory after recording a 25-17 victory.  The Trojans hit .219 in the third set, smashing 11 kills with 4 errors in 32 attempts.  The Warriors had a .150 hitting percentage (13 kills with 7 errors in 40 attempts).


Kaylee Spreier led the Trojans' offense with eight kills and hit a match-high .467.  Samantha Zell added seven kills.  Carly Rozell had six kills.  Kendra Steffen produced 16 set assists.  Rachel Johnson had eight assists.

Alwaise Villa recorded three service aces for Dakota State.  Maddie Polzin added two service aces.

Jazmayne Williams collected nine digs for DSU.  Polzin and Bailee Steffensen each added seven digs.  Polzin had two solo blocks.  Rozell registered a solo block and two block assists.

April Jones had eight kills for Waldorf.  Kaitlyn Monck and Rebecca Bartnicki each added six kills.  Elisabeth Tramm contributed 22 assists.

Rieley Rodman and Erica Fee each recorded eight digs for the Warriors.  Savanna Cordle had two solo blocks and a block assist.

Dakota State hit .256 in the match compared to Waldorf .019 hitting percentage.  The Trojans smashed 33 kills, while committing just 11 attack errors in 86 attempts.

DSU had seven service aces.  WU recorded one ace.  The Trojans had five blocks compared to the Warriors four blocks.


Dakota State concludes their six-match road trip Wednesday evening in Valley City, N.D.  The Trojans visit Valley City State (N.D.) in the North Star conference action.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Graichen Gymnasium.

Waldorf goes on the road to Oskaloosa, Iowa to take on William Penn (Iowa) for a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening.
