The Dakota State University Cross Country teams will open their 2009 tough schedule this Saturday (September 5th). The Trojans will be running in the University of South Dakota/Don Baker Invitational in Vermillion, S.D. The meet will be held at the Don Baker Cross Country Course. The women's race will run a 5K race starting at approximately 10:15 a.m. The men's 8K race starts at 11:05 a.m. A high school junior varsity and varsity race will also be run.

Women's Race Preview
The women's race will feature schools from NCAA Division I University of South Dakota, and NCAA Division II Augustana College and Wayne State. Augustana women's runners are ranked fourth in the nation in NCAA Division II. In addition, quality NAIA schools will be competing in the race.
Dakota State has six runners on the roster. The Trojans return three DAC All-Conference runners - Clarice Bauer, Samantha Warnke and Stephanie Warnke. The women's team will also return Suzanne Swett, who missed a spot to the DAC All-Conference team last season. The Trojans captured the highest place finish as runner-up in the DAC Championship Meet a season ago. Brittany Young and Alyssa Protsch are the newcomers for the Trojans.
The Trojans are third in the DAC Conference preseason poll. Dakota State received votes to the NAIA Cross Country Preseason Rankings.
Men's Race Preview
Similar to the women's race, the Trojans will be facing tough competition. Augustana College men's runners are ranked 17th in the NCAA Division II poll.
The Trojans will have a nucleus roster with 14 runners on the team. Dakota State returns DAC All-Conference Tyler Van Peursem and Anthony Drealan, who both qualified for NAIA Cross Country Championships last season. The Trojans finished third in a strong DAC Conference Meet last fall. The Trojans had added University of Sioux Falls transfer Devon Berkness, who qualified to the NAIA Nationals last year. In addition, the Trojans will return seniors Kyle Sanderson and Cody Foreman; juniors Matt Fideler and Andrew Manning; and sophomores John Bintliff; Keith Huffman, Andrew Quenzer and Ben Harrison. Michael Hoffman, Bryan Wolfe, Shay Baysinger and Ethan Shafer are the newcomers for the Trojans this fall.
