Cross Country - Mon, Nov. 24, 2008

(Madison, SD) - The Trojan cross country teams officially ended their season last Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the NAIA National Cross Country Championship Meet at Kenosha, WI. Four Trojan runners competed at the national championship meet.

With 327 runners in the women's division at the national championship meet, Stephanie Warnke finished 77th with a time of 18:49.1. It was her fastest time she ran this season. Stephanie is the daughter of Tim and Brenda Warnke of Fairfax, SD and is a freshman Elementary Education major at Dakota State University. Senior Kari Schaefer ended her collegiate cross country career as she finished 195th with a time of 19:41.5. She is the daughter of Randy and Theresa Schaefer of Madison, SD and majors in Exercise Science at Dakota State University.

In the men's division, there were 331 runners competed at the NAIA National Championship Meet. Tyler Van Peursem finished 128th with his fastest time this season at 26:19.7. He is the son of Kevin and Shelly Van Peursem of Sioux Falls, SD, and is a junior Computer Security at Dakota State University. Anthony Drealan crossed the finish line as 200th place with a time of 26:59.2. He is the son of Wayne and Heidi Drealan of Fulda, MN and is a junior Computer Education at Dakota State University.

The NAIA All-American Academic Award was also announced at the conclusion of the NAIA National Cross Country Championship Meet. A student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved at least junior academic status to earn this honor. Six Trojan student-athletes earned this honor - Schaefer, Van Peursem, Jeff Sawatzky, Suzanne Swett, Samantha Warnke and Clarice Bauer. Jeff is the son of Doug and Mary Sawatzky and is a junior Elementary Education major. Suzanne is the daughter of Richard and Barbara Swett of Platte, SD and is a junior Physical Science major. Samantha is the daughter of Tim and Brenda Warnke of Fairfax, SD and is a junior Biology major. Clarice is the daughter of Bruce and Karen Bauer of Madison, SD and is a junior Exercise Science major.
