MADISON, S.D. - Four Dakota State University men's basketball athletes were named to the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Division II Men's Basketball All-Conference teams, announced on Tuesday evening.
Junior guard John Lamb (6-foot-1-inch) and senior forward Luke Lamb (6-foot-6-inch) were both named to A.I.I. All-Conference first team. Senior guard Tyrone Gordon, Jr. (6-foot-2-inch) and junior forward Yusuf Vinson (6-foot-5-inch) were named to second team A.I.I. All-Conference honor.
John averages 12.1 points, 3.0 assists and 1.9 steals per game for DSU. He records 80 3-pointers this season - the third most 3-pointers in a single season in Trojan men's basketball record book. He averages 3.7 rebounds per game. According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Tuesday, John ranks 16th in the nation in 3-point field goals made per game (2.8), 20th in total 3-pointers (80), 43rd in steals per game (1.9) and 44th in total steals (55).
Luke produces an average of 12.0 points per game. He shoots 129-for-314 (41.1 percent) from the field, including 55 total 3-pointers. Luke averages 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game for the Trojans. He accumulated a total of 94 3-pointers during his career at DSU - the seventh most 3-pointers in Trojan men's basketball record book.
Both John and Luke is the son of Kathy Lamb of Altoona, Iowa. John is majoring in General Studies, while Luke is studying Business Management/Marketing at Dakota State University.
Gordon, Jr. leads the team with 13.3 points and 5.2 assists per game for the Trojans. He shoots 44.4 percent from the field (114-for-257). Gordon, Jr. averages 4.0 rebounds per game. He ranks 44th in the nation in total assists (114). Tyrone is the son of Tyrone Gordon, Sr. and Tonya Frasier of Milwaukee, Wis. He is majoring in Physical Education at DSU.
Vinson averages 10.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for Dakota State. He leads the A.I.I. in rebounds category (236 total rebounds). He shoots 50.4 percent from the field (118-for-234). Vinson ranks 21st in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (3.0) and 46th in total rebounds per game (7.9) and free-throw percentage (78.6 percent). Yusuf is the son of Stephanie Vinson of Lincoln, neb. He is studying in Physical Education at Dakota State University.
Garner, in his fourth season as DSU's men's basketball head coach, was named to the A.I.I. Coach of the Year for his second straight year. He guided the Trojans to their second straight A.I.I. Division II Men's Basketball Tournament Champions and earned their second straight trip to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament. Dakota State had produced their best start (7-1 record) for the first time since 1966-67 (9-1 record). The Trojans currently holds the most wins record in a single season with 22 victories.
Luke Lamb, Gordon, Jr. and Vinson were named to the A.I.I. All-Tournament team after the conclusion of the conference tournament on Feb. 24 in Jamestown, N.D.
Valley City State's (N.D.) Sekani Milligen has been named the A.I.I. Division II Men's Basketball Conference Player of the Year.
