GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK:  Dakota State (10-8 overall record) looks to bounce back in the winning column this week as they face three teams from South Dakota (all NCAA Division II members).  The Trojans visit the University of Sioux Falls (7-7) on Tuesday night.  Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at the Stewart Center.  DSU returns home this weekend to begin their five-game home stand at DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojans host two former Dakota Athletic Conference members—Black Hills State (4-9) on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and South Dakota Mines (9-7) on Saturday night at 6 p.m.

TELEVISION:  Midco Sports Network will carry a live broadcast of Dakota State-University of Sioux Falls men's basketball game from the Stewart Center on Tuesday night.  Midco Sports Network can be found on channel 26 or 622 for Midcontinent Communication subscribers.

LAST MEETING: Dakota State and USF split their two meetings last season.  The first meeting on Nov. 6, 2010 in the USF Classic, the Cougars came back from 20-point halftime deficit to defeat DSU 83-75 in overtime.  Dakota State won the last meeting with USF 76-56, which was held on Nov. 14, 2010 as part of the Ed Harter Classic.  Black Hills State had won its last two meetings with DSU (78-64 on Feb. 11, 2011 in Spearfish, S.D. and 81-63 on Jan. 15, 2011 in Madison, S.D.)  Dakota State's last win versus the Yellow Jackets was on Feb. 12, 2010 as the Trojans rallied back in the second-half for a 69-66 victory.  South Dakota Mines had won the last four meetings in the series with DSU, including a season sweep last year (81-65 in Rapid City, S.D. on Feb. 12, 2011 and 68-54 on Jan. 14, 2011 in Madison, S.D.).  The last time DSU defeated the Hardrockers was on Jan. 31, 2009 by the score of 73-67 at DSU Fieldhouse.

LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State suffered a pair of defeats against NAIA's 'Top 10' teams last week.  The Trojans used a huge rally late in the second-half at then-No. 2 Dordt (Iowa), but fell short at the buzzer as DSU narrowly made a 3-pointer shot (73-71) on Jan. 11 in Sioux Center, Iowa.  DSU could not bounce back in the winning column on Jan. 14 as they dropped a 71-61 contest to No. 10 Jamestown (N.D.).  University of Sioux Falls won their fourth straight game on Jan. 7 as they defeated Valley City State (N.D.) 76-75.  Black Hills State suffered a pair of road losses in North Dakota last weekend.  The Yellow Jackets lost to Dickinson State 74-56 on Jan. 13 and Minot State 73-66 on Jan. 14.  South Dakota Mines defeated Minot State (74-60) on Jan. 13 and Dickinson State (75-73 in overtime) on Jan. 14 in North Dakota last weekend. 

TOUGH SCHEDULE:  Dakota State probably had played its toughest schedule in the nation this season.  The Trojans already faced seven teams from the NAIA's 'Top 25' teams—five of them against 'Top 10'.  Six of the final ten games for DSU are against members of the NCAA Division II.

HISTORY LESSON:  The Trojans recorded its double-digit wins for three straight seasons (10 wins this season, 15 in 2010-11 and 11 in 2009-10) for the first time since the late 1980's and early 1990's.  Dakota State recorded six straight seasons of double-digits wins, starting in 1988-89 (10 wins).  The Trojans had 17 wins in 1989-90, 20 in 1990-91, 19 in 1991-92, 14 in 1992-93 and 1993-94.

DSU RANKS NATIONALLY:  According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, Jan. 16,  Dakota State ranks 24th in the nation in field goal percentage (42.2), 36th in scoring defense (69.1), 39th in field goal percentage (45.9) and 44th in assists per game (14.7).

QUICK LEADERS:  Jesse Bean leads the team in scoring with an average of 14.2 points per game.  He shoots 45.8 percent from the field.  Bean averages 2.8 assists (48 total).  Spencer Adams records 105 rebounds (6.2 average) and nine blocked shots (0.5 average) for the Trojans.  Keith Lee ranks 30th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio of 2.3.
