MADISON, S.D. - Seven different Dakota State University Trojan softball players are listed in the DSU school record after the completion of the 2013 season. In addition, the Trojans broke two new team records.
Two-time All-Conference selection Brittany Hill - sophomore third base from Chino, Calif. - set a new DSU softball school record for batting average in a single season. She produced a batting average of .500 (59 hits in 118 plate appearances) during the 2013 season (34 games), which was previously set by Jennifer Garst with .461 batting average in 2004. Hill is second in the record book for single season slugging percentage of .720 (.806 - record by Garst in 2004) and fourth for most hits in a single season with 59 (66 - record set by Allison Hubers in 2006).
She currently leads DSU school record career batting average of .469. Hill amassed 114 hits in 243 at-bats through her first two seasons at Dakota State (Allison Hubers is second in career batting average of .422 from 2005 to 2006). In addition, she leads the DSU softball school record for career slugging percentage of .695 (.655 by Garst from 2002-05).
Hill tied a DSU school record for most triples in a single game with four other athletes - Jesica Alcala (vs. University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) - April 5, 2011), Leigh Gramke (vs. Mayville State (N.D.) - April 9, 2009), Kendra Weisser (vs. Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) - March 21, 2004) and Mandy Austin (vs. Huron (S.D.) - 2001). She smashed two triples in a 7-3 victory over McPherson (Kan.) on March 8 in Wichita.
Samantha Deen (2013 All-Conference selection) - junior pitcher from Afton, Mo. - set a new DSU school record for most strikeouts in a single game. She recorded 14 strikeouts from the pitching mound in a 4-1 victory at Presentation (S.D.) on April 26 in Aberdeen. The previous old mark was set by Garst with 12 strikeouts in a single game versus Presentation on April 7, 2005.
Katie Slibowski - junior pitcher/infielder from Lathrop, Mo. - scored four times in a game at Mid-American Christian (Okla.) on March 6, which tied the DSU school record with two other players (Jenna Basnight vs. Southern Vermont on March 9, 2011 and Ashlee Kirschenman vs. Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on March 21, 2004).
On the pitching mound, Slibowski recorded the second most strikeouts in a single season with 109. Garst currently holds the DSU school record of 116 strikeouts during the 2004 season.
Chelsey John - junior infielder from Pleasant Grove, Utah - swiped four bases in a single game at Hillsdale Baptist (Okla.) on March 7. She tied the DSU school record for most stolen bases in a single game with Lori Olen (vs. Mount Marty, S.D. on March 19, 2006).
Elizabeth Rubalcava (2013 All-Conference selection) - freshman catcher from Pomona, Calif. - produced the second best fielding percentage in a single season of .986. Ashlee Kirschenman recorded a DSU school record fielding percentage of .990 in 2007.
The team broke three new records - two new single season records - in the DSU school record book. The Trojans set a new record for most strikeouts in a single game with 14 strikeouts at Presentation on April 26. DSU recorded a single season batting average of .337 during the 2013 season, breaking an old record of .334 batting average set in 2006. In addition, DSU broke a new team record with a .404 on-base percentage in 20013, breaking the old record of .395 set in 2006.
Dakota State tied the school record in a single game for most stolen bases with nine (at Hillsdale Baptist).
The Trojans are second in the DSU school record in two different categories in a single season. DSU accumulated a total of 179 strikeouts from the pitching mound, four strikeouts short of tying the school record (183 strikeouts). Dakota State produced a slugging percentage of .453 in 2013 (.476 - school record set in 2011).
