MADISON, S.D. - Three Dakota State University softball athletes were named to the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.)/Frontier Player of the Week honors during the 2013 softball season.
Sophomore infielder Brittany Hill was named to the player of the week two times this season. She was named the player of the week during Week No. 2 from March 4 through March 10 and Week No. 6 from April 1 through April 7.
Hill was 14-for-29 at the plate with a batting average of .483 to help the Trojans to a 6-3 record from March 4-10. She recorded four doubles, a triple, and a home run. She produced eight runs batted in (RBIs) and a slugging percentage of .862.
During the week of April 1-7, Hill had an impressive batting average of .724. She went 21-for-29 at the plate with five doubles and a home run. Hill recorded a slugging percentage of 1.000 and scored seven times. She produced 20 RBIs.
Junior Samantha Deen was the pitcher of the week during No. 2 week (March 4-10). She went 2-0 on the pitching mound with an earned run average of 3.36. Deen tossed 16 2/3 innings and allowed 12 runs (four unearned) on 23 hits. She recorded 18 strikeouts.
Katie Slibowski, junior at Dakota State, was the most recent pitcher of the week (Week No. 9 - April 22-28). She went 2-2 on the mound, producing an ERA of 2.26. Slibowski struck out a total of 28 batters in 32 innings of work.
Dakota State heads to Dickinson, N.D. this weekend to play in the NAIA Softball Unaffiliated Conference Tournament (A.I.I./Frontier conferences). The Trojans open the postseason play versus Valley City State (N.D.) on Friday morning at 11 a.m. (Central Time)/10 a.m. (Mountain Time).
