MADISON, S.D. - Trailing 6-0 through the first two-and-half innings of the first softball doubleheader game Saturday afternoon at Thue Softball Complex, Dakota State outscored Presentation (S.D.) 15-1 in the next three-and-half innings for a 15-7 victory.  The Trojans went on to win the second game 11-2 in five innings to complete a doubleheader sweep over the Saints.

Dakota State ended their eight-game losing streak and improved their overall record to 10-12.  Presentation, a member of NCAA Division III independent school, dropped their overall record to 7-17.

Game 1 - Dakota State (S.D.) 15, Presentation (S.D.) 7 (6 innings) - BOX SCORE

After a scoreless first inning, PC scored three times to earn the first lead of the game.  Sarah Hendricks opened with a double.  She advanced to third base by DSU's wild pitch with one out.  Steph Mastel recorded an RBI single to score Hendricks for a 1-0 lead.  Alexa Volesky hit an RBI triple to score Mastel and Shelby Anderson added an RBI single to extend PC's lead to 3-0.

The Saints added three runs in the top third frame as their lead grew to six runs.  Presentation started the inning by hitting two consecutive hits from Jacque Trost (single) and Kelli Boekelheide (double).  Hendricks reached on base by a fielder's choice, while Trost scored when DSU was unable to tag her out at the home plate (4-0 lead).  Naumann hit a 2-RBI single as PC expanded their lead to 6-0.

Dakota State exploded for seven runs in the bottom third inning.  Bretton Lien reached on base by a walk and advanced to second base after Chelsey John's sacrifice bunt.  Aubrey Lorenz recorded a bunt single to advance Lien to third base.  After Lorenz swiped to second base, Renaye Gamson hit a 2-RBI single to score Line and Lorenz as DSU trimmed PC's lead to 6-2. 

Rubalcava added an RBI triple to score Gamson to cut DSU's deficit to 6-3 in the bottom third frame.  She scored from PC's defensive error as Brittany Hill reached to second base.  Samantha Deen produced an RBI single to score Brittany Hill to bring the game within one run (DSU trails 6-5).  Katie Silbowski was hit-by-pitch.  Both Lexy Miller (courtesy runner for Deen) and Silbowski each swiped one base.  Lien hit a 2-RBI single to score Miller and Silbowski as DSU earned their first lead of the game at 7-6.

Presentation tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the fourth inning, thanks to Boekelheide's RBI triple after Trost's walk with two outs.

Lorenz hit an inside-the-park home run as DSU regained their lead at 8-7 in the bottom fourth frame.

The Trojans added six runs in the bottom fifth.  DSU had three hits and four walks, while PC committed two errors in the inning as DSU extended their lead to 14-7.

John was hit-by-pitch in the bottom half of the sixth inning.  After PC's wild pitch to advance John to second base, Lorenz recorded an RBI double to score John to end the game by mercy run rule.

Lorenz was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and two singles for the Trojans.  Rubalcava had a triple and a double.  Brittany Hill added a double and a single.  Lien had two hits.  Gamson, Deen and John each had a hit. 

Lorenz, Gamson, Brittany Hill and Lien each produced three RBIs for DSU.  Silbowski swiped three bases.  Lorenz and Miller each recorded one stolen base.

Boekelheide had a triple and a double for the Saints.  Mastel added two singles.  Anderson, Hannah Phillips, Trost, Hendricks, Naumann, Kelsey Schmidt and Volesky each had a hit.  Naumann recorded two RBIs.

DSU outhit PC 13-11 in the game.  The Saints committed five defensive errors compared to the Trojans' one error.

Both teams left seven runners on base.

Shai-Lee Hill started on the pitching mound for the Trojans.  She worked for two-plus innings and allowed six runs on six hits.  Silbowski picked up the victory in relief as she limited PC to five hits and one run in four innings of work.  She struck out six Saints' batters.

Naumann (3-11) recorded the pitching loss for Presentation.  She pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up 10 runs (four unearned) on 11 hits.  Anderson worked for 2/3 innings in relief and allowed five runs (one unearned) on two hits.

Game 2 - Dakota State (S.D.) 11, Presentation (S.D.) 2 (5 innings) - BOX SCORE

The Trojans committed three defensive errors in the opening inning to allow Presentation gain a 1-0 lead.  Anderson reached first by DSU's defensive miscue and advanced to second base by another Trojans' error during the same play.  Phillips hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Anderson to third base.  Trost hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Anderson as the Saints earned a one-run lead.

DSU broke their scoring drought with five runs scored in the bottom third frame.  Miller started with a bunt single.  PC committed two separate wild pitches, allowing Miller to advance to second and third bases.  John hit an RBI triple to left-center to score Miller, tying the game at 1-1.  Lorenz added an RBI double to score John as DSU earned a 2-1 lead.  Brittany Hill produced an RBI single to score Lorenz for a 3-1 lead in favor of the Trojans.  DSU added two runs caused by PC's defensive error as the Trojans' lead grew to 5-1.

Presentation recorded their first hit of the game with two outs in the top fourth frame.  Hendricks reached on base by a walk with one out.  She advanced to second base after Naumann hit a ground out.  Mastel hit an RBI single to score Hendricks as DSU's lead was reduced to 5-2.

The Trojans continues their scorching offense in the bottom fourth inning as they produced six runs.  Miller hit a bunt single.  John was hit-by-pitch and advanced Miller to second base.  After PC's wild pitch to advance Miller and John one base, Lorenz hit an RBI single to score Miller for a 6-2 lead.  With bases loaded situation for DSU, Rubalcava hit a 2-RBI double as the Trojans extended their lead to 8-2.  Brittany Hill added a 2-RBI double to make it an eight-run lead.  Shai-Lee Hill hit an RBI single to score Brittany Hill for an 11-2 DSU lead.

Presentation went three-and-out in the top fifth inning as DSU sealed the victory due to mercy run rule.

Brittany Hill, Lorenz and Miller each went 2-for-3 at the plate for Dakota State.  John had a double and scored twice.  Rubalcava had a double.  Shaie-Lee Hill recorded a single.

Brittany Hill had three RBIs for the Trojans.  Lorenz and Rubalcava each added two RBIs.  Lien, Shai-Lee Hill and John each had an RBI.

Mastel had a single and an RBI for the Saints.  Trost added an RBI.

The Trojans outhit PC 9-1. 

Silbowski (6-5) notched the victory for DSU.  She pitched four innings and allowed two runs (one unearned) on one hit.  Silbowski struck out five PC's batters.  Lien pitched a shutout fifth inning in relief.  She recorded two strikeouts.

Anderson (4-4) lost on the pitching mound for Presentation.  She tossed 3 1/3 innings and allowed 11 runs (two unearned) on nine hits.  Naumann worked for 2/3 shutout innings in relief.

Both teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday at Thue Softball Complex.  First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
