MITCHELL, S.D. - The Dakota State University softball team was unable to end Dakota Wesleyan's winning streak Wednesday evening at McWhirter Field. The Tigers swept the season series with the Trojans by recording another doubleheader sweep 4-2 and 5-2.
Dakota State dropped their fourth straight game and fell to 12-19 overall record this season. DWU, a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, recorded their eighth straight win and raised their record to 14-21.
Game 1 - Dakota Wesleyan 4, Dakota State 2
Devinne Facile produced an RBI double to score Katie Uttecht in the bottom of the third inning to give DWU a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers hit back-to-back hits in the bottom fourth frame. Nicole Haley opened with a double followed by Roni Nekrassoff's RBI single to extend DWU's lead to 2-0.
Dakota Wesleyan made it 4-0 by Nekrassoff's 2-RBI single in the fifth inning.
DSU snapped their scoring drought in the top of the sixth inning. Leslie Neiman recorded an RBI single to score Lexy Miller for Trojans' first run of the game. Taylor Mackey added an RBI sacrifice fly to score Renaye Gamson to trim their deficit to 4-2.
The Trojans were unable to score in the final inning as they left one runner on base.
Neiman and Jessica McLane each had a single for DSU. Neiman and Mackey each recorded an RBI. Miller swiped one base.
Nekrassoff had a double, a single and produced three RBIs for the Tigers. Haley added a double and a single. Facile had a double, a run scored and an RBI. Katie Anderus recorded a single.
Brittany Hill (2-2) took the loss on the mound for Dakota State. She tossed six innings and allowed four runs (one unearned) on six hits.
Nkerassoff pitched a complete game victory for DWU. She limited DSU to two runs (one unearned) on two hits.
Game 2 - Dakota Wesleyan 5, Dakota State 2
DWU got their first lead of the game at 1-0 in the opening inning by Andreus's RBI single.
In the bottom second frame, the Tigers added a run from Facile's RBI single to extend DWU's lead to 2-0.
Dakota Wesleyan got an RBI single from Anderus in the bottom third inning. Uttecht added a 2-RBI double to make it 5-0 in favor of DWU.
DSU scored twice in the top sixth frame to trim their deficit to 5-2. Hill hit a 2-RBI double with two outs and scored Miller and Gamson.
The Trojans could not score in the final inning as DWU secured the victory. DSU left one runner on base.
Gamson had two singles and a run scored for Dakota State. Hill added a double, a single and produced two RBIs. Kulp recorded a double. Mackey, McLane and Brittany Tebbe each had a single.
Nekrassoff hit two doubles for DWU. Anderus had two singles and two RBIs. Uttecht recorded a double and two RBIs. Haley had two hits.
Tebbe (2-2) recorded the loss for DSU as she worked for 2 1/3 innings. She gave up five runs (two unearned) on seven hits. Mackey pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief as she limited DWU to three hits.
Nekrassoff (3-9) pitched her second straight complete game win for DWU. She allowed two runs on eight hits.
Dakota State looks to snap their losing skid on Thursday afternoon. The Trojans head to Riverside Park in Yankton, S.D. to take on Mount Marty in a doubleheader. First game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
