Box Score @ Minot State

MINOT, N.D. - The Dakota State University softball team traveled to North Dakota for the first time this season for this weekend's postseason tournament. The Trojans opened their final Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) tournament as a seventh seed. DSU faced the tournament's No. 2 seed and host team Minot State on Friday morning at South Hill Complex. Dakota State fell short for an upset bid over Minot State in the opening round, 4-3 in eight innings.

DSU dropped their overall record to 14-24. Minot State moved on to the quarterfinals today at 3 p.m. and raised their record to 27-8.

The Trojans scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning caused by the Beavers' defensive error.

Kayla Thiesen and Jen Dixon hit back-to-back RBI singles to give Minot State a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth frame.

Dakota State regained their lead in the top sixth inning. With runners on third and second bases and two outs, the Trojans scored twice by MSU's defensive error to take a 3-2 lead.

Beaver Stacey Fournier hit a solo home run in the bottom sixth frame to tie the game at 3-3.

DSU and Minot State did not score in the seventh inning as the game was extended into extra innings.

MSU's Tiffany Friesen opened with a single in the bottom of the eighth inning and advanced to second base caused by DSU's defensive error. Ashley Smoke hit an RBI fielder's choice with one out to score Friesen to secure the extra-inning victory.

Fritz had two singles and two runs for Dakota State. Amanda Stevenson added two walks. Emily Kulp and Leslie Neiman each had a walk. Jayna Ackerman had an RBI.

For Minot State, Fournier was 3-for-3 behind the plate. She had a home run and two singles. Melissa Elliott added two singles and recorded two stolen bases.

The Beavers recorded 11 hits in the game compared to the Trojans' two.

Alisa Balesteri (7-11) suffered the loss for DSU. She pitched 7 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on 11 hits.

Dixon (9-3) recorded the win for Minot State. She tossed eight innings and gave up three unearned runs on two hits.

Dakota State will look to remain alive in the DAC Softball Postseason Tournament today (Friday) at 3 p.m.
