MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University fast-pitch softball team returned home for the first time on Wednesday. The Trojans were on the road and neutral sites for 17 straight games prior to their first home game. DSU hosted Presentation (S.D.) in a non-conference doubleheader. The Trojans swept the Saints 16-2 in five innings and 6-1 to snap their six-game losing streak.

Dakota State improved their overall record to 11-8. PC, a member of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, lost their ninth straight game and dropped their record to 4-10.

Game One - Dakota State 16, Presentation (S.D.) 2 (5 innings)

DSU's Jesica Alcala opened the bottom of the first inning with a triple. Ashley Stevenson hit an RBI double to score Alcala for their first run of the game to give DSU a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, Dakota State added a 3-run inside-the-park home run by Alcala to extend their lead to 4-0.

Presentation broke their scoring drought in the top of the third inning. The Saints scored twice to trim DSU's lead to 4-2.

The Trojans exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third frame to give DSU an 11-2 lead. DSU had three doubles in the inning from Ashley Stevenson (twice) and Amanda Stevenson.

Dakota State opened the bottom of the fourth inning with four straight hits. The Trojans produced five runs in the inning to expand their lead to 16-2.

DSU ended the game in the fifth inning due to eight-run mercy rule.

Six Trojans recorded a combined seven doubles in the game from Emily Kulp, Jayna Ackerman, Ashley Stevenson (twice), Amanda Stevenson, Jessica McLane and Leslie Neiman.

Alcala was 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a single and recorded five RBIs for Dakota State. Natasha Fritz was perfect behind the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Ackerman added three RBIs.

For Presentation, Dana Chalupsky went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Kelsey Schmidt added a single and recorded two RBIs.

Dakota State recorded six stolen bases in the game. Ashley Stevenson and Neiman each swiped two bases.

Brittany Tebbe notched her second pitching victory for DSU. She tossed a complete game and limited the Saints to two unearned runs on three hits. Tebbe recorded 11 strikeouts.

Michelle Stratton was the losing pitcher for PC. She pitched four innings and allowed 16 runs on 18 hits.

Game Two - Dakota State 6, Presentation (S.D.) 1

Emily Kulp hit a 2-RBI single to score Kendra Knudson and Ashley Stevenson as DSU grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Presentation cut the Trojans' lead to 2-1 in the top of the third inning. Kelsey Schmidt hit an RBI single to score Chalupsky.

In the bottom of the third frame, Ashley Stevenson was hit-by-pitch and swiped two bases. Kulp hit an RBI single to score Ashley Stevenson to give DSU a 3-1 lead. Jessica McLane added an RBI double to score Kulp to make it 4-1 in favor of Dakota State.

The Trojans added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Fritz opened with a single. Jessica Shaw hit an RBI double to score Fritz. Ashley Stevenson added an RBI single to score Shaw to extend DSU's lead to 6-1.

Six Dakota State players recorded two hits in the game from Knudson, Ashley Stevenson, Kulp, McLane, Fritz and Shaw. Ashley Stevenson and Kulp each had two RBIs. Amanda Stevenson added a hit. Fritz and Ashley Stevenson each recorded two stolen bases.

Chalupsky had a triple, a single and a run scored for the Saints. Steph Mastel had two singles. Hannah Phillips, Schmidt and Stratton each had a single.

Alisa Balesteri recorded the victory for Dakota State. She improved her record to 4-3 as she tossed a complete game. She allowed one unearned run on seven hits. Balesteri struck out seven batters.

For PC, Danielle Naumann took the loss. She pitched six innings and allowed six runs on 14 hits.

Dakota State continues their six-game home stand this weekend. The Trojans return back to Dakota Athletic Conference at the Thue Softball Complex against Mayville State. The four-game series will start on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
