Outstanding Male Athletes

Seth Boomsma (2016)

Boomsma continued to build on his impressive running career at Dakota State when he added his third overall NAIA Indoor Track All-American this past March.  He qualified for the NAIA Indoor track Nationals in the men's 60-meter dash, where he clocked a time of 6.81 seconds for the eighth-best time in the semifinals which advanced him to the finals.

Boomsma finished seventh in the finals with a time of 6.83 seconds, bringing his total of NAIA All-American honors to five in his career at DSU.

Boomsma also qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track Nationals last May and has already secured a spot in this year's national meet in the 100-meters and 200-meters.  He was also named All-Conference at the North Star Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field meet after winning the 60-meters and 200-meters in Brookings last February.

Boomsma earned NSAA Indoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week honors twice during the 2016 indoor track season for the Trojans.

Ben Kullos (2016)

Kullos had a monstrous eason for the Trojan Football team where he broke numerous school records.  He was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA)-NAIA Football All-American First Team at linebacker position after breaking numerous tackle recods.

He holds the DSU Football school record for most career tackles with 441, single-season tackle record with 181, and single-game record of 25 tackles versus Waldorf (Iowa) on Sept. 12.

Kullos was also selected as the North Star Athletic Association Defensive Player-of-the-Year after leading the natino in total tackles.  He registered six (6) quarterback sacks, two (2) interceptions and four (4) forced fumbles in 2015.

He is also a two-time NSAA All-Conference First Team recipient and was honored as the conference's defensive player-of-the-week three times during the season.

Kullos was named the NAIA Football National Defensive Player-of-the-Week on Oct. 19.  He was one of the 22 NAIA Football players being selected to the Cliff Harris Small College Defensive Player-of-the-Year list.

Kullos earned the College of Sports Information Directos of American Academic All-American College Division, Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award and NSAA Fall Sports Scholar Athlete for his academic achievements in the classroom.

Ben is the son of Berney and Nancy Kullos of Peoria, Ariz.  He is a senior Math Education at DSU.
