Lady T's clipped by Dordt

By Dan Holsworth, Madison Daily Leader (Madison, SD) - Dakota State University's Lady T's came close to posting its second win of the young women's basketball season here Saturday. Dordt College (Sioux Center, Iowa), however, left the DSU Memorial Field House with a 7-point, 59-52, win. The Lady T's trailed Dordt by just two points, 25-27, at halftime. Dordt's Lady Defenders (2-4), though, held the Lady T's off in the game's final 20 minutes, outscoring the Lady T's 32-27.

With the loss, the Lady T's will be taking their 1-5 record up against Dakota Wesleyan University here Tuesday, in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game at the Field House. Dakota State's offense was spearheaded by a pair of double-figures performances from Megan Swecker and Tricia Boldt, who had respective 16- and 13-point games. The duo combined to shooting 11-for-23 in 2- and 3-point field goals, but Dakota State shot just 27 percent, 11-for-66 from the field.

The Lady T's scored 12 of their 52 points from the charity stripe. Off the boards, Dakota State was out-rebounded 48-40 with Katie Bourk claiming six rebounds and Carmyn Streitz swiping 5 caroms. Kaityln Kramer and Dayna Tschakert each had 4 rebounds. Dordt's scoring was paced by Amber Soodsma, who arched in a game-high 22 points. Julia DeKockkoek added 17 points as the Lady Defenders shot 34 percent, 18-for-55, from the field and 20-26 at the free throw line. Soodsma completed a double-double night, hauling in 10 rebounds and McKinzie McBride led Dordt in rebounding, yanking down 17 rebounds.
