Lancaster Signs with DSU
By Laura Haatvedt - Capital Journal Staff (Pierre, SD) - Riggs senior Jenna Lancaster is just beginning her final season of high school volleyball. And already, she knows her career won't stop there. Lancaster signed a letter of intent Wednesday afternoon to play volleyball for Dakota State University in Madison.
"I had gone to a lot of colleges and talked to a lot of coaches, but DSU just felt right," said Lancaster, who plans to pursue a career in elementary and special education, of which DSU is known.
Lancaster has attended a couple camps at the school, according to DSU head volleyball coach Cynthia Henning and caught the attention of the staff as a skilled player, a quick learner and a good listener.
"She stood out at those camps," Henning said, while chatting, laughing and joking with her newest recruit. "Then after talking to her, I knew she definitely fits in with the program and the personality of the team. She’ll be a great asset."
For Lancaster, watching a match was ultimately the deciding factor.
"Watching her, she’s an amazing coach and I’m looking forward to playing for her," Lancaster said.
But first, Lancaster will have one more season with her teammates and coach Kacy Kienholz at Pierre. And she plans to make it a memorable one. Last year, the team went 23-1, and finished second in the state at the Class AA tournament.
And Lancaster would love nothing more than to go out on a high note, with a trip back to the AA tournament.
