Lady T's Dominate Peru State 96-54
By Jon Hunter, Madison Daily Leader Publisher (Madison, SD) - The Dakota State University Lady T's scored a lopsided victory Saturday night, beating Peru State College 96-54.
A 16-0 run by DSU midway through the first half blew the game open. The Lady Trojans scored 52 points in the first half for a 28-point lead at the break.
DSU's defense forced 30 turnovers by Peru State, who shot only 31 percent from the field. Meanwhile, DSU was passing and shooting well, including 6-12 from beyond the three-point arc. The Lady Trojans scored 18 of their points on fast breaks.
DSU had three scorers in double figures, with Abby Mehlbrech scoring 19 points, Katie Bourk 16 and Mollie Merriam 12. Lisa Chase grabbed 10 of the Lady Trojans' 53 rebounds.
Monique McDuffie was the lone standout for Peru State, scoring 22 points and tallying 13 rebounds. She was the only Lady Bobcat to shoot well from the field, hitting 9 of 18 field goals. Peru State missed its only three-point attempt.
DSU's record rises to 4-7 on the season, and the team travels to Fremont, Neb. Friday night to take on Midland Lutheran. Peru State drops to 3-10 on the season and meets William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Thursday.
