Two Additional Signings to Play for Trojan Volleyball
May 19, 2008
By Cynthia Henning, Trojan Volleyball Head Coach
(Madison, SD) - Dakota State University Volleyball and Head Coach Cynthia Henning are pleased to announce two additional signings for the 2008 recruiting year. The Trojans have added height to the program with the additions of Wolsey-Wessington’s Kim Eggleston and GFW’s Stephanie Kruggel. “We are really excited to add Kim and Stephanie to our volleyball program and university,” said Coach Henning, “both of these athletes have solid skills and will be very good additions to our program.”
Kim Eggleston is a 6'0" middle/outside hitter who had a strong career for Wolsey-Wessington High School. During her prep career Eggleston competed in volleyball, basketball, track and softball. In her senior volleyball campaign, Eggleston ranked third in Class ‘B’ for hitting percentage at 36% and averaged 2.68 kills per game. Eggleston’s career high was 18 kills against Doland-Conde, and she registered 257 kills her senior season. Eggleston’s ability on the court was not overlooked as she was selected All-Conference her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons in both volleyball and basketball. Eggleston has been recognized as an Academic All-State athlete in volleyball, basketball, and track. Along with her involvement in athletics, Eggleston is very involved within other activities at Wolsey-Wessington. She has been a member of the Wolsey-Wessington band and chorus for the past four years and is a member of the One Act Play troupe. Even though, Eggleston has been very involved in all aspects of high school she has still maintained her academic focus and is a member of the National Honor Society. The Trojans are looking to use Kim in both the middle and outside hitting positions. “Kim is a powerful hitter already which is definitely an asset in making the transition to the college game,” said Coach Henning. “I’m very excited that she chose Dakota State and I’m looking forward to working with her and seeing her develop. I had the opportunity to see her numerous times during her high school career and was very impressed with the growth she displayed as a high school player,” added Coach Henning, “she is a solid fit for Dakota State and Trojan Volleyball.” Eggleston is the daughter of Jennifer and Scott Eggleston and is a Respiratory Therapy major at Dakota State University.
Stephanie Kruggel is a 5'10" middle/outside from Winthrop, MN. Kruggel played for GFW High School and had an outstanding career. During her prep career with the Thunderbirds, Kruggel was a two time All-Area, All-Conference, and All-Journal first team selection. She is a three-year letter winner for the Thunderbirds and is a three time Academic All-Conference selection. She helped lead her team to the Tomahawk conference title her sophomore and junior years. During her senior campaign, she was selected as the All-Journal and KNUJ Player of the Year. Kruggel was a two year starter for GFW and in 2007, she helped lead her team to their first ever state tournament appearance. During her scholastic career, Kruggel has been involved with not only volleyball but also competed in basketball and softball for the Thunderbirds and excelled in all three sports. She was a two time All-Conference selection for basketball and a two time All-Conference selection for softball. Along with those accomplishments, Kruggel was selected as the 2006 offensive MVP, 2007 team MVP and 2008 captain for Thunderbird softball. While Kruggel has been successful on the athletic fields, she has also been very involved in the classroom and other school activities. She is a National Honor Society member and has been involved with the Spanish Club and band for four years. She has been on the ‘A’ Honor Roll and Top 10 Academic lists for four years and is a Presidential Academic Award Winner her junior and senior years. She is involved with Kids against Hunger, Student Council, and Student against Drunk Driving (SADD). During her high school career, Kruggel played setter and middle for the Thunderbirds and the Trojans are looking to use her in both the middle and outside positions. “Stephanie is definitely a multi-talented player in terms of positions she can play.” said Coach Henning. “She has a great arm swing and very, very explosive jump that will be a definite asset. The fact that she has great hands and experience at the setting position just makes her that much more versatile at the collegiate level.” Kruggel is the daughter of Gary and Lori Kruggel and plans on majoring in Math Education at DSU.
