Trojans had successful day at Wayne State Wildcat Pre-season Open Saturday

WAYNE, Neb. - The Dakota State University indoor track and field teams opened their 2009-10 campaign at the WSC Recreation Center. The Trojans participated in the Wildcat Pre-season Open Saturday. DSU had five first place finishers at the meet.
The Trojan men's team had three first place finishers. DSU had a strong showing in their middle- and long-distance events. Ten Trojan runners placed in the top 14 in the one mile run as Tyler Van Peursem claimed the individual title with a time of four minutes and 26.43 seconds.
Devon Berkness placed first in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:11.49. Anthony Drealan finished second in 9:19.17.
Van Peursem was second in the 800 meter run in 2:01.63. Matt Fideler placed second in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:46.35.
Shay Baysinger cleared the high jump with a measure of six feet and two inches for first place. Chancy Cameron finished second with a high jump measure of five feet and 10 inches.
Drew Allen placed second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.07 seconds. He finished fourth in the long jump with a measure of 21 feet and 8.25 inches.
Stacey Berg finished as runner-up in the men's long jump with a measure of 22 feet and 2.50 inches. He finished fourth in the 55 meter dash in 6.67 seconds.
On the women's side, Danielle Rowe claimed the individual title in the high jump. She cleared the high jump measure of five feet and two inches. Rowe finished third in the 200 meter dash in 28.50 seconds.
Brandi Gau captured first place in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:05.20.
Brittany Young got second place in the 800 meter run in 2:27.66. Samantha Warnke placed third in the women's one mile run with a time of 5:34.41.
The Trojan indoor track and field teams will have a month off before their next meet. DSU will participate in the Dordt Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 16th, 2010 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
