WBK: Wayne State takes season series with Trojans

WAYNE, Neb. - The Dakota State University women's basketball team stepped aside from their regular-season play as they faced NCAA Division II Wayne State College Saturday. The Wildcats took the second meeting of the season from the Trojans 83-61 at the Rice Auditorium.
The win lifted the Wildcat's overall record to 8-1. The Trojans remained at 4-6.
Wayne State opened the game with a 20-8 run. DSU used a 12-6 run to cut the deficit to 26-20 with 6:15 left in the first half. The Wildcats went on a 11-5 run to take a 37-25 halftime lead.
The Wildcats outscored the Trojans 46-36 in the second half.
Donna Lavea led the Trojans with 13 points. Ellesse Washington had 12 points and gathered six rebounds. Allegra Kohley scored 11 points off the bench.
Kati Jo Christensen went 7-for-13 from the field, including 3-for-6 front he 3-point line for 18 points for Wayne State. Alyssa Fischbach added 14 points. Ashley Arlen and Mara Hjelle each scored 13 points. Hjelle had seven rebounds. Ali Schwartzwald dished out seven assists.
The Wildcats out shot the Trojans 48.5 percent to 44.9 percent.
DSU will have a week off and return back to action on Dec. 29th and 30th. The Trojans will participate in the University of Sioux Falls/Holiday Inn Classic. DSU will face in-state rivals Dakota Wesleyan (Dec. 29th - 6 p.m.) and University of Sioux Falls (Dec. 29th - 4 p.m.). All games will be at the Stewart Center.
