WBK: Trojans sweep season series with USF in overtime thriller

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Dakota State University women's basketball team faced the host team University of Sioux Falls on the second day of the Holiday Inn Classic Wednesday at the Stewart Center.  Trojan Katie Bourk hit a game-tying 3-pointer with no time left in regulation and forced overtime.  The Trojans outscored the Cougars 9-3 in overtime for Trojans' second straight victory, 70-64.

The Trojans returned back to .500 with a 6-6 overall record.  DSU snapped the Cougars' six-game winning streak and dropped to 11-6 overall.  The Trojans defeated the Cougars 67-48 on Nov. 3 in Madison, S.D.

DSU led at halftime 33-27.  The Cougars outscored the Trojans 34-28 in the second half.  The game was knotted at 61 by the end of regulation.

Four players scored in double figures for DSU.  Donna Lavea posted a double-double with 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Bourk added 16 points and dished out five assists.  Alyssa Kirk had 11 points and Lashonda Martin netted in 10 points.

Jamey Hofer scored 18 points off the bench for USF.  Holli Aggen had 14 points and Elizabeth Hildreth added 13 points.  Hofer had eight rebounds. 

The Trojans shot 49.1 percent (27-for-55) from the field compared to USF's 34.9 percent (22-for-63).  DSU outrebounded the Cougars 45-37.

Dakota State will return home on Saturday, Jan. 2.  The Trojans will face No. 2 Hastings College, coached by former longtime DSU head coach Jeff Dittman.  The non-conference game will be held at the DSU Fieldhouse at 6 p.m.
